Which pulls harder SOHC VTEC OR A DOHC ZC?????
the age old question
they've got about the same amount of torque...I've never seen the curves, so I dont really know what'd pull harder where...

i feel the zc has more torque than the d16z6. but thats out of driving both cars. i dunno like what jason said i never seen the curves to prove which has more.
SOHC Vtec...B-Cuz it has VTEC and it pulls all the way to redline...
I have seen two identical cars (88-91 Civic Si) run and the one with the SOHC VTEC raped the ZC... hope that helps

My ZC pulled to 7200 rpm and it was strong the whole way there. It is a toss up, both have around the same hp and torque. We need to see some dyno sheets if anyone has some.
I'd have to say the ZC. The cams on the vtec suck at low end. It has nothing untill the vtec kicks in. And then it's still not as much power as the ZC. If somebody got raped by a sohc vtec there's something really wrong with the car. Unless there's alot done it shouldn't happen. My ZC HF runs a 14.9 with I/H/E & pulley and I've tore up civics and Del Sol's with no problem than had I/E. I've owned cars with both engines and in my opinion the ZC has alot more performance.

I say the ZC has more pull. At 4,500 the car pulls back pretty good. I took a spin in a SOHC Vtec a while ago with cams, and other mods and it didnt pull as hard. My guess would be a ZC since its DOHC. "Note: This doesnt mean a ZC is faster, just has more grunt"
come on man. why do people fight for the little guy? just cause he's the little guy? ya if i put some money into my old flat four type one 1600cc pos air-cooled ghia engine then that could give a ******* b18c5 a run for it's money. the fact is, they're all little piece of **** engines that need extensive mods to REALLY make power. the whole purpose of dropping in a mini me or zc is to have a cheap swap, not to make mad power. right? right. i wouldn't argue over budget power, save it for economical power..or something intelligent-sounding like that.
when i got my crx with d16z6 i did 15.2 et.without the vtec activated, couldn't get it to work,so i guess with the vtec will be faster
it was an 88 crx si,only intake, homemade catback,no header,i think the time was that low because of wheight,i sold the car to a guy and the car caught fire due to a nos intallation one of the line blew up,if you need help or something email me ,don't worry about those dohc
You think eh?????
You think Honda was smart enough????
Them why did they give the ZC a close ratio tranny????
Hint, because of the narrow powerband.

Well I was considering both when looking for my swap. (I wanted a straigh forward drop in with a little wiring.) From my understanding having seperate cams makes for easier tuning. They both have similar hp ratings z6 125, y8=128, zc~130. The thing that swayed me was the fact that most of the ZC's are pre 92, as well as the fact that they are jdm so getting parts may not be as easy, and aftermarket parts arent as readily available.
It was a factor of finding something with low mileage, If i have a problem can I get the parts from the local auto parts store.....
My thoughts are if you want something with more torque, and more power go B- series.
