How many times do you have to turn a fresh motor over to build up oil pressure in it. Thanks

just turn it over for like about 10 secs. u might not see any pressure on the gauge yet, but once u start her up, it should go up in a couple of seconds.

What if you don't have an oil pressure guage?

I didn't, so I just turned mine over for a good 10-20 seconds.

 

squirt a few drops of oil down the spark plug holes , turn it over for 10 seconds then start her up.

could you tell me why u do tht?

 

I cranked mine over for literally 3+ mins, 30 secs at a time. I never built any oil pressure and didnt even get any oil in the oil filter. I had to start the motor to build oil pressure.

Sometimes cranking isnt enough to prime the oil pump.

i beleive you do that because there isnt any oil for the first couple seconds or so. u squirt some oil in there so it has some until the rest of the oil comes...

but if u squirt some thru the spark plug hole, its just gonna sit on top of the pistons, unless u flood it till it flows out, and isnt it bad if u start her up with oil on the pistons? correct me if im wrong.

Yes but oil isnt normally in the combustion chamber. Its supposed to be under the piston and on the cylinder walls, being scraped down by the piston rings but not in the combustion chamber, that serves no purpose besides fouling your spark plugs.

Assembly lube should be used on all the contact patches of any moving parts.

 

so I should have used lube on the cyl walls? I just lubed it with oil... but its been sitting for a while...

 

that would be ok, to prevent it from rusting

No just oil on the cylinder walls is fine.
