Default Upgraditis?

Just curious, what do you guys do to combat upgraditis? I guess upgraditis would be defined as wanting to replace/upgrade stuff for no real reason. It kinda goes hand in hand with autosports I think (I mean, isn't that the point?).

My chassis is done, so now my garage is full of parts for the upcoming motor build. I am missing a few parts still, but for the most part its ready to go in the next few months. My current upgraditis affliction seems to be focused on the turbo area. I have a sc61 with the large precision IC (standard h-t build) which has NEVER been run, but I am already having thoughts of going bigger.

The problem of course is that my fuel setup would then need to be upgraded (I have 255lph hp and 880cc's), and then after that I am not sure about the axles (might need to go to the full gator stage 3's with the hubs instead of the modified stage 3's).

Anyhow, I didn't intend to talk about my parts specifically, rather, what do you guys do to keep this in check? It's not like going bigger once would be enough, you would have to keep going bigger

Maybe its just me...

It's funny you say that. I was recently told that I should "find a steady girlfriend so you can stop wasting all your time and money on these stupid cars".

My mom (who has been getting a little bit vocal about wanting grandkids lately) said "when are you going to stop playing with these cars and get married? I want a grandkid!"

Haha, seriously tho...this stuff is just a hobby to me, which is why I really can't figure out why nothing is ever 'enough'.

The road racing forum had a thread recently that was talking about what new part they were able to rationalize spending their money on (and compared racing to crack)...I was laughing at the time but I am no better

I don't know if this quite makes sense to me... not trying to flame or anything, but I would focus on getting the car driving before you start worrying if your intercooler is too small. Run the car a few times before you decide that-- and first determine, for example, "yes, my Intake air temperature is way to high, I need a larger intercooler". Base your upgrades on solid data which shows that you need to upgrade things.

Agreed. Also remember I am bored at work so topics I normally wouldnt post about become much better ideas

I guess I am just commenting on the forces that are always present in me (and maybe in other people? Maybe not) driving you to want more and more, bigger and better, etc.

I only mentioned the parts in my garage as a point of reference. I guess I am just kind of frusturated that its so hard to 'be happy with what you got'. This seems present in the racing world more than anywhere (since pushing the edge is kind of built right into the sport).

Again, I am at work and have nothing better to do Don't mind me...
