Default problems with my car starting

I was having problems with my 88 CRX DX yesterday. I was at a mall and it shut off on me. When I tried starting it it would turn but not start and not even attempt to start, like no chug chug. I checked the fuses, timing belt, and plugs and they were fine. I replaced the spark plug wires and it started up right away. When I was driving it the next day, I would be driving and then the rpm's would dip and it would chug a little. The check engine light was on too but when I restarted it it was gone. Any idea what is wrong?

Also, the day before, before I got to the mall. I was moving my floor mat around to make sure it wasn't bloking the gas pedal. I gave it a little hard push and then my rpm's jumped to redline for a few seconds and I shut it off. The gas pedal had gotten stuck on the floor mat. Really stupid of me but it happens, what problems could occur because of this. thanks

Just out of curiosity do you have a short ram intake on your car. I only ask because the same thing happened to mine. I would be driving and suddenly my tach would dip down and the car would chug. Turned out my intake was hitting the posotive side of the battery. Just a suggestion. The other thing i was thinking it could be is a clogged fuel filter. Might want to replace that if its been a while. And check to make sure you're getting both spark and fuel.

wow, that was a really good diagnosis. I do have a short ram intake and i took off the zip tie to it to check the fuses under the hood. It probably is bumping up against the positive battery terminal. Thanks for your help man.

No problem man, i zip tied a piece iof thick rubber hose directly to the posotive terminal to prevent this you could probably find some cheap rubber hose at napa or vip that would do the job.
