First Swap and I need some help!!
Just finished my first swap. 94 jdm gsr in 92 cx. Started up and threw and code 7 but idled just fine. Btw I replaced the Tps before installing the motor because it got damaged. At first it drove fine for about 15 minutes and then it started misfiring and violently jerking. The rpms would drop to 0 and then back to normal. I pulled over and the car died and at first I had a hard time restarting it. Well now it will start but idles at 1500 rpm and jumps around. I made sure all of the ground wires were clean and well connected and that didn't do any good. I'm not sure why it keeps throwing a code 7 but I need some help. I tried posting this in the swap forum but got only 2 responses. Please help, I wanna drive my car!!!
the TPS has a adjustment that has to be within oem specs. it beleive its .5v to 5v. put a multimeter on it and adjust it and if it won't come close to specs get a new one. oh yeah to adjust it loosen up the screws and turn it.
ok well my tps was off. I used a multimeter and no more check engine light but the car still runs like crap! the tach jumps around and then goes to 0 and the car dies. Do you think this could be something with the distributor? maybe the ignitor? please any advice would be helpful, thanks
If it was the ignitor it wouldnt run like **** cause it wouldnt run.
make sure you got the 2 plugs on the intake manifold in the right places, there should be 2 plugs that are both the same and are often put in to the wrong sensors
Does it only run like **** when warm or all the time?
Do you have a STEADY spark?
Do you have fuel?
Correct computer?

at first the car ran fine and this started about 15 minutes after I was driving. The plugs are in the right place because I had them backward at first and the car would rev over 2500 rpm. I have checked everything I can think of. My main question is why would it run fine and then all of the sudden run like crap?? Thank you guys for all of your help. There's not too many people around here that know what the hell they are talking about so I am depending on you guys for the help
hrm.... without seeing it it's hard to say. If the tach is jumpings around like carzy it could be the ICM (ignition control module) aka igniter.so you have a helms manual? If you do I'd start checking the dizzy
ok..first of all guys I appreciate you taking the time to help me with my problems, I have been losing sleep over this thing not running and just getting fed up now!! Can someone give me a list of things to check so I can start the process of elimination with this thing? You know I hate to buy something like a distrbutor if I don't have to....and again guys any help is greatly appreciated!!
you probably won't need to replace the whole distributor, just the igiter. I had it go in one of my cars and it was a pain to figure out.
heres how to check it

don't think its the igniter . . . i had a similar problem with my install couple years back. 94 jdm gsr in 94 eg. When i would give it some gas, the car would shake like it was having a seizure . . .and the tach would go ballistic. i think the tps and map sensors are the same type of plug . . i had them swapped. try swapping those sensors.
also had igniters go bad in three different cars. all three would simply NOT run.
hope that helps.

well guys I think I might have figured it out!! There was a loose ground right near the thermostat, is that the ecu ground? anyways I tightened it and messed with the timing a little and so far it seems to be running fine. I haven't got to really drive it far yet but I will after work and then I will let you know, thanks again for all of the help!!!
ya, definately check all of your grounds. the thermostat ground is the ground that supplies ground to your harness and my buddy had a problem to what your describing and it was the ground. tighten down that bolt and then if you want to be on the safe side, just make a new ground that connects from the thermostat to the tranny. good luck!
well the car ran good today until I looked down and the temp gauge is almost all the way on H!!!!! what the hell!!! I check the radiator hoses and only one of them was hot so someone told me it was probably the thermostat. Also my fan doesn't seem to be coming on. Anyone had this kinda problem after a swap??? thanks guys
