Default 89 CRX Ignition Switch / lock tumbler

well my car died on the way home today. It has been flaky for the past couple. It cranks good but when i let go of the key it dies, I can get it to run if I crank on it and then hold the key in the on position, but not so far that the starter is cranking constantly.

Is this the ignition switch or the lock tumbler unit.

and also does anyone know if an ignition switch from another 88-91 civic / crx will work or does it have to be the 89 CRX Si ignition switch? I am going to a junk yard tommorrow to grab one.

thanks guys.

part #7 i believe is the culprit.

hondaautomotiveparts.com list at 44.44
oriely's had it around $89

seems like a big difference. but maybe it includes #9 also? I wonder if the wire and plugs are part of the deal?

it looks like as long as i get a 88-91 civic / crx then i will be good, part #84835 for all that I look at.

I have had this problem with numerous honda's. If you remove the ignition switch you can pry the cover off of the switch. Then take some emery and clean the contact points. Worked like a charm only ever had to replace one.

http://crx.honda-perf.org/foru...=6118

that is a link to basically what i did (88DXCRX sent mt the link, thanks for the help )

I went a couple of steps further.

1) i streched the springs a bit to ensure there would be tension for a good contact

2) i added some solder ot the points of the brass colored contact (the raised nubs) incase anything was worn to far it will offer a little bit more material.

it works now hopefully it contineus for as long as i have it.
