Ok, let me get this straight.

ITR - Stock

Or

PBY ITR - With ITR stuff.

Um, I'm thinking they're the same. (almost)

I'd almost say the ITR would be a bit faster due to the P&P head, and lighter components throughout. (valves, rods, crank, etc....)

a gsr crank is lighter than type r because the type r has been balanced so it can handle hi revs so they ad metal to it to balance it

Um, not to my knowlegde. The GSR crank is actually heavier than the ITR. The ITR is just balanced.

????? Ummmm one word comes to mind....NO, to balance a crank, any crank, they shave matrial off to balance not add it, lets see, crank is unbalanced we can either mill some material off by simply using a cutting machine of some sort, or we can heat the crank, then weld more material to it, you see how that just sounds wrong, read it aloud you will see.

can't you bolt an ITR head onto a GSR bottom, and add ITR pistons, rods, etc, and essentially make a Type R motor this way? I thought I read that in one of the Hybrid Honda How-to's. If I'm wrong someone please tell me....

you can, but it won't be an "exact" Type R motor...for one, the c/r will be differant.

Oh, O.K. I thought it would be exactly identical. Are the bottom ends different?? I thought the only major thing that was different about the C5 was the cylinder head, the intake manifuld, and the pistons, rods, crank. I guess I'm still in the dark about this then.

If he uses a GSR bottom end with ITR pistons and ITR head how will the compression ratio be different? Perhaps you thought he said GSR head in which case yes this would yeild higher compression than an ITR because of the combustion chambers in the GSR head.

Sort of Kind Of, this is the poor man's ITR but it is not as strong and wasnt' meant to rev like the ITR, the ITR uses lighter stronger rods, and the crank has been balanced which is what gives it a higher stock revline than the GSR.

correct me if im wrong but a lighter crank isnt going to add power, just allow you to rev quicker, which in turn gives you power quicker. right?

Lighter crank reduces rotational mass therefore the motor works less to turn, now this doesn't produce HP as much as it frees up HP that was already there.

I can't see how buying a ITR head and putting it on a GSR bottom will be a Poor man's ITR.... How much are you planning to save by doing this? Buying a Complete Motor is cheaper than piecing it together... Besides you miss out on one of the nicest things about having a ITR... The Tranny... Just get the R motor if you can afford it or Get a GSR and build it up using the money you save over the R motor and then you will have a Fast/Faster motor...
Well the reason it was called a poor man's ITR was for someone who already had a GSR(either car or swap) but now they want an ITR they could take a ITR head and some pistons and build a semi ITR cheap, it's not so much that is it cheaper thought but more that it's not a true ITR motor it is just a GSR built to ITR specs so that is where they came up with the name.
