noise from power steering rack
Since I have been in Germany, my ITR's power steering rack has been squelling when its cold. Sounded like the level was low and the pump was squelling, but fluid level is fine. No leaks that I observed.
hrmmm my car is doing the same thing... cept its still in the 50-60's here... I cant seem to identify the problem either... help would be great
I had a leaking rack, replaced it with a bum reman. It made some weird noises before it popped. When i starts to leak you wont notice it because it jst leaks into the dust boot. Then one day, POP, ps steering fluid everywhere.
Squealing sounds like a loose belt though IMO.
As far as I know Lubrication for the rack is ps fluid.

Good Afternoon! I live in Toronto Canada and our weather right now is cold. I have the same problem and so far since the whining in my power steering system started 5 months ago, I have done the following:
1. Changed the O-Rings twice with Honda original parts
2. Changed the Idler Pully to orginal part
3. Changed the Power Steerting Pump with original part
4. Flushed and changed the power steering fuild with a recommended substitute fluid
No fluid is leaking out. The reservoir is full and not losing any fluids.
I am still having the whining problem but noticed when I changed my winter tires that I saw fluid on the PS boot below. So I am wondering where that leak came from. I am told that possibly the next part I may have to change is the PS Pressure Line from the pump to the rack. If anyone has some additional solutions that I may be missing I am all ears! I do not want to get it diagnosed from a dealer due to the fact of just the cost to be there let alone the diagnostic time costs that potentialy it will be. I did speak to a Honda mechanic at our local Honda dealership and after I told him what I have done todate, he then mentioned that I probably need to change the rack. Quite the expense not knowing if that is the solution either. Await some replies! Thanks Rick
