Help! Oil and smoke from my downpipe
help me please. I just installed a brandnew t3 turbo on my crx, at a shop. I'm still there now. Once we got everything situated we started the car and oil and smoke came flying out the downpipe from the turbo. The turbo is new, why would this be happening? please help!
if you have your downpipe hooked up to your turbo and oil is spewing out from the inside of your downpipe the only way oil couldve gotten in there is from the turbo. If its the turbo, the only logical explanation would be the turbo seals.
are you sure its coming from inside your downpipe?

well there are mixed ideas,
some people say to pull the ecu fuse, take your feed off of the turbo and turn the motor over a few times till it starts spraying oil (use a pan to catch it) after that didnt do much, i used a squirt tube i had and i basically shot some oil into the turbo where the feed nipple is, and then put my fuse in and started the car, it started shooting oil out into my pan and after i got to about half a qt i then turned the motor off, this is suppose to get all the **** out of your stainless line, i then put the line on the turbo, and started it up.
I didnt do it the 100% right way but after 20 non starts and no oil i could tell my battery was starting to drain, if you dont have a way of putting oil into the turbo before starting it then i wouldnt suggest doing what i did. but technically it worked for me.
it takes about 30 seconds for that oil to shoot in to the turbo and i guess your not suppose to run it with no oil.

hey guys sorry so late with this, i can only post 5 times a day. but yes we did all preinstallation procedures and then carefully proceeded to do break in procedure which is when we noticed the oil. The seals are good, and we replaced the oil return just incase it was causing flow issues. Still nothing. Now what we were thinking, is maybe the oil pressure is too high and it flows way too much oil for the return line to beable to flow it out quick enough. Could this be an issue? I saw one thread on here once about something like this. Do you think that could be the problem, and should i try to regulate the oil going into the turbo to see if that works? Thanks.
Did you install a restrictor in your oil feed line?
If oil pressure going to the turbo is too high, some of that oil can make it past the turbo seals. IIRC most turbos cannot go over 65-70 PSI of oil pressure. And I believe your average VTEC motor has around 90-100+ PSI of oil pressure at WOT.
EDIT: If you dont have a restrictor, you can get a restrictor fitting installed. Contact Arturbo or Flamenco-T if you need help getting a oil feed restrictor.

No I don't have an oil resrictor installed, could this actually cause this? The turbo spitting oil out the exhaust because of too much? Thanks. Where else could i get a restrictor, like locally? any stores sell them? or can you make them easily?
