Default H22a4 and H22a1 heads/block interchangable?

Hey guys, quick question that I am not to sure of, right now I have a H22a4 in my car now, and the old h22a1 head is sitting is my basement, needing a rebuild... So what I am asking is with the H22a1 head work with my H22a4 block? I am going to build the H22a1 head to the honda-challenge rulebook specs if I can use it.. TIA

Yes. The heads are interchangable. No modification is needed.

Default Yup, ..

..but those are the blocks, both series have the same p13 head. Look at your engine when you get home or now, above the exhaust ports you should see p13 stamp. This true for 92-96 motors, and 97+.

Just remember that the headgasket is different. Use the 97 and up headgasket or you will have problems.

Does anyone know what the differences between H22A1 and H22A2's are?

I have the H22A2 in my UK 4th Gen Lude VTEC. No one seems to know the differences between types...

H22A1 -> H22A2 etc

Can anyone list the differences from A1 to A7

H22a2 is probably just a European-specific engine block code for the 4th gen VTEC. I would be willing to bet that your "H22a2" = our "H22a1" in North America. They are most likely identical aside from the stamp on the block...

Interesting info. I did not know that one... What is the difference in the gaskets? I assume it has to do with the closed vs open deck issue... What problems can arise if you use the 4th gen head gasket?

I'm guessing it has something to do with the coolant passages of the open deck vs the closed deck design.

Yes it has to do with the coolant passages. THe headgaskets are not interchangeable. I had a friend that did that and he blew the headgasket out. Alot of people dont know that they are not interchangeable.
