Default Will Type R rear swaybar install easily on a '01 GSR?

I got a '01 Silver GSR and want to get a stiffer bar in the rear. I see many aftermarket ones but they require a custom installation. The Comptech one requires you to sheer off welded nuts off the frame as well as some drilling. In the Type R spec sheet, the bar is 22mm vs. my 14mm. My presumption is that it will be a virtual swapout. Is that the case? If so, I'll get a stock Type R swaybar and get it installed.

you need to get an installation kit, either bsq or beaks. I"m not sure which one is better so dun ask me please . I think you need to drill two of your existing holes bigger and it should install fine. Correct me i'm wrong guys?

there's a little more work then a direct swap out. You need to get a hold of a BEAK's or BSQ's mounting kit. Both those guys are on this board. Install was very easy and the results are good. And yeah you need to drill two of your existing holes to fit a larger nut.

Thanks for your quick replies. If all I have to do is enlarge a hole, that won't be a problem. You mention a kit that's needed. My preference is OEM. I'd like an identical install of the Type R using OEM parts. If so, I'll get the additional parts from Acura.

Acura doesn't make the parts. BSQ and Beak were smart enough to invent a kit to allow us non itr owners to put them on our cars.

So what you are saying is that all factory Type R's have rear swaybars installed with kits manufactured by BSQ or Beak? I just want to have all the parts off a Type R to install the rear bar on my GSR.

What they mean, is the factory welded in sheetmetal mounts on the R is different than your GSR...
In other words, you can't put the type-R bar in a GSR without doing some "custom work" or getting one of the forementioned kits...

So what you are saying is that all factory Type R's have rear swaybars installed with kits manufactured by BSQ or Beak? I just want to have all the parts off a Type R to install the rear bar on my GSR.
The rear suspension subframe (the part that the rear swaybar mounts to) is different between the Type-R and all non-Type-R (GS-R/GS/SE/LS/RS), therefore the Type-R rear swaybar is not a "direct bolt on". You will need a mounting kit which will allow you to properly mount the Type-R rear swaybar to a non-Type-R. I offer my BSQ mounting kit for $20 shipped and you can go to http://www.geocities.com/bretq/mounting_kit.html for further information. Also, I have complete step-by-step instructions (with photos and Acura part numbers) for installing the Type-R rear swaybar. You can go the http://www.geocities.com/bretq/swaybar_install.html for my installation instructions.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

IM and i will explain it step by step. I have done it 2x. Basically, the ITR has a flat surface in the subframe crossmember, the GSR does not. The kits they are talking about provides a mounting surface for the ITR bar. You will also need the D brackets and some bolst and bushings that can be bought from the dealership. http://www.geocities.com/motorcity/s...r_install.html
