Gauge Cluster is alivE!
well i went ahead and did that amebr paint on new cluster bulbs iek someone posted in the ek fourm. It def came out awesome, but way to red, i think i should have used a ORANGE stained glass paint instead of model orange enamal like i did...and suggests in the fourm...
so last night i decided just to get new bulbs and just put them in. WOW! the cluster looks brand ******* new, the new bulbs in comparison to the old is night and day... i went ahead bought that orange stain glass paint and painted the top two bulbs orange to glow my needles( i lost that plastic peice that goes in the top...)... i left the back lit part stock.
im going to do my climate control next, i haven't seen what kind of bulbs it needs yet... but my cluster def shines!
i think you need 5 - #24 bulbs and i forget how many #74-73 bulbs. i'll find out.

Ok.. here is a little write up on how to do it. no pictures yet. sorry!
Tool/Parts Needed:
1. 3 Packs of #24 bulbs ( they come in set of two )
2. 3 Packs of #73 bulbs ( they come in set of two )
3. Kylron(sp?) orange stain glass spray ( optional )
4. Short and Long Philips head screw driver
5. Small flat head screw driver
Ok first step is go out and buy the bulbs from your local pep boys or salvo, where ever. I actually got hooked up for unknown reasons so i on;y paid $6 for all those bulbs
anyways. buy them and rush home
Second, time to remove the cluster cover and the cluster it self. There is 4 screws holding in the cover. First remove the two bottom, which are easily found. Then get you flat head and pop the top flush pieces off the top of the cluster cover. Under there you will find 2 more screws. remove them...
Now that you think you cluster is gonna pop right off. wrong. You gotta push the dimmer/defrost/hazard switchs out and unplug them. The dimmer and defrost i could pop out of the cluster and undo, but the hazard i had to play with....
Now that, thats off, you got the cluster to remove. There is 4 screws also holding this peice in. easy to see, easy to remove. You may need a magnetic long screw driver just so you don't drop the screws on the bottom two.
Once thats off, time to unplug everything out of the back. There are two large white connections, 1 small blue, and your speedo cable. just unsnap them out of the back of the cluster.
Now that its off, you will notice 5 big sockets and a bunch of small sockets in the back of the cluster. (backlighting) Just untwist them and replace the bulbs. You don't have to replace the lower middle bulbs, they are just your warning lights.
Now there are two more bulbs left. these are the ones on the top of the cluster ( fore lighting). just unscerw the top small top screws and then replace thsoe bulbs. ( NOTE this is where that ugly orange plastic piece is. I removed mine and just sprayed thsoe 2 bulbs orange with the spray, this lights up the needles orange. Just think of all the colors you can make your cluster... SUPER NOTE you can also spray the backlight bulbs for your numbers to light up other colors.)
anyways, make sure everything is in tight and redo the step backwards. and waaaaa laaa!
