Default Not really..

..the cams might not hinder things, especially if you invest in adj. cam gears. However, replacing your pistons w/ Type S pistons will raise your static compression by 1 point to ~ 11.0:1, which all in all is a lot less favorable for a turbo car, where you would like to be closer to 9.0:1. Stock compression is 10:1,. which isn't bad if tuned well and fueled. Having said that, the stock pistons should last on ~ 5-7psi of daily boost, I personally wouldn't run more than that.

As far as aftermarket pistons are concerned, you cannot run forged pistons in an h22 block w/out resleeving the block w/ Ductile Iron Sleeves, the FRM sleeves in the motor currently will not seal and the forged pistons are too "hard". As far as brands are concerned, JE, Wiseco, etc. are all comprable, at least from what I know, the most critcal part is having the block built correctly, and doing the work right the first time around.

Another topic about turbo engines and rebuilds that isn't discussed is the prevention of heat build up in the combustion chamber. Fuel tuning is important here, but so is thermal coating, and its something you may want to look into having the combustion chambers thermal coated.

The Type S cams haven't worked well. Try crower stage 2 turbo cams and springs or a custom set from webcam.

That was really tech oriented.

The Type S stuff may be cool and all, but not needed for turbo, alot of people recommmend stock cams for turbo. I would say to probably go with the valve springs or some other manufacturer for those and retainers, don't go with the pistons as mentioned above and I'd save the money from the cams for something like a boost controller or upgraded injectors as a starting point.

Type S cams will be counter-productive on an FI application. Under boost, the added valve overlap on the bigger TypeS cams will probably cause you to loose power over stock cams.

Yup. On a turbo setup, the place that has the greatest pressure is between the exhaust ports and the turbo. (the manifold). So if more overlap is intoduced, the exhaust gasses will basically flow back into the cylinder. That's why on any car, V8s, 4cyls, import or domestic, a low overlap cam is most commonly used (stock cam).

In regard to your H22 turbo kit, there are several thing already going against you if your motor is still stock. For one thing the car is still sitting a higher than favorable compression. I have seen many Preludes ranging from 93-2001 plagued with gremlins ranging from random miss firing to excessive back firing. Lots of these problems are due to not only the static compression being too high, but the map sensor, as well as the lack of the distributor being able to be retarded (96+ OBD II). On your average Integra and Civic, almost all these problems can be solved simply by adding a billet check valve on the map sensor (Missing Link), ignition w/ colder spark plugs, and fuel computer (i.e. Apex VAFC or Field). In the Preludes this is not the case. Until the compression can be dropped through pistons or even a thicker head gasket, your Prelude will still be plagued with problems. I would strongly recommend dropping your compression through after market pistons due to the fact that not only are you getting a stronger piston but also that the factory ones weren?t designed for forced induction. Follow this with a good set of iron sleeves and some rods and your bottom end with turbo prepped.
