1989 accord lxi in flood
Hi,
My first post so let me introduce myself. I'm an electrical engineer (I know, snicker, snicker, szzzt) so I think I know a whole lot more than I really do.
My dad was a mechanical engineer and spent most of his life working on repairing trucks and cars. I spent my youth in his garage learning just enough to get in trouble. I have replaced engines and transmissions, rebuilt engines and generally know my way around cars. But then again, I run into some very strange, new (to me, anyhow) and exciting problems (which I could live without!!).
So here is my current problem:
I have a 89 accord 2dr LXi that was in a flood. It has 210K and was running perfectly before the flood. The water got high enough to cover the floor inside the car and got into the ECU. It also splashed up to get in and around the entire underside of the car. I dont think the splashing got up around the engine.
It wouldn't start, but it did crank, which I did alot of until I discovered the computer was under the drivers seat and was under water. When it was cranking, it would sputter and push out gas out of the exhaust system.
I took apart the computer and discovered some serious corrosion around the white connector. I fixed that and I finally got it started but now it's burning some serious oil. It doesn't burn it immediately, but after about 10 seconds of running, it starts acting like a fogging machine and burns enough oil to lay down a smokescreen aroundthe neighborhood. Then it stalls.
If I wait 5 or 10 minutes it will start again.
I checked the plugs, and spark and they are ok. Is there something the ECU controls that could be pouring oil into the engine? Did I wear the rings enough while cranking it to cause them to leak this badly?
I would appreciate any ideas before I give up and let the Honda People get to it.
