Default custom or cat-back

Until recently i was thinking about going 2.5" custom piping from the header back on my 98 lude with an apex'i n1. but my friend at jamasco performance down here in hollywood, florida says that i would most likely see better performance gains from a catback exhaust if i gutt out the cat. he said that the companies that make exhaust greedy, apexi, hks, etc. design and engineered the exhaust to be bolt on for stock piping. i am concerned mostly about performance and i dont want it to sound like a fart machine. can someone give me some input on this. custom piping or leave it stock and maybe later change the downpipe?

Tip size will pretty much let you know how loud your going to be. If you want to be quite with performance look for a exhaust with a small tip like the APEXi WS.

Go with a exhaust like he posted. They look very clean and have the stock exhuast oval look. Then just put in a test pipe if you wanna do away with your stock cat. Just beware with no cat you will probably be shooting flame ***** bc h22s run rich up top and this will usually occur.

I like my Thermal Classic.

Don't expect to see much gains from a cat-back exhaust and a gutted cat, though.

highest performance? would be this setup...comptec header...if they make one for prelude....2.5 custome piping with HIGH performance high from Catco or powercore.....with a good muffler like N1, Greddy evo2, HKS....etc.....hmm u can do straight piping for prelude easily unless u got ur car hella low

how long you think the piping will last me. i hear that custom piping tends to fall apart after some time. is 2.25 in the back and 2 in the front too low?

Have a tanabe super hyper medalion. Little louder than WS but quieter than just about everything else. Same design as WS except muffler is stainless and is colored red and gold from heat.

Actually the Tanabe HM is a stright through design where the Apex'i WS is a chambered muffler.

That is probably why it is louder.

Simply out of curiousity, how much WHP do you think that you will gain from your exhaust?
