Default Just picked up 12 gallons of xylene, $5 a gallon. Yee-haw!

I'm gonna have the cleanest gas tank EVAR!

Well, the Toluene worked pretty well (engine didn't blow up at HPDE) so I'm going to try Xylene. I found a store with it at $5 a gallon, so I cleaned 'em out. I would have bought Toluene again, but they didn't have any (and were charging $6.50 last time I checked.)

I'll let y'all know if my fuel lines dissolve, or something.

This is added as an octane booster right?

How much to put in a full tank btw?

http://www.vtr.org/maintain/gasoline-octane.shtml

Mixtures with 92 Octane Premium
10%...........94.5 Octane
20%...........97.0 Octane
30%...........99.5 Octane

I plan to use about 1 gal xylene in a 5 gal gas can, with 93 octane as a base. So, that's probably somewhere between 97-98 octane (20% xylene mix).

Be careful with that ****, once it absorbs through your skin and enters your bloodstream it's in your system forever, protect yourself when you use it and use a respirator too.

Bullcrap.

http://www.atsdr.cdc.gov/tfacts71.html

Laboratory tests can detect xylene or its breakdown products in exhaled air, blood, or urine. There is a high degree of agreement between the levels of exposure to xylene and the levels of xylene breakdown products in the urine. However, a urine sample must be provided very soon after exposure ends because xylene quickly leaves the body

Ahh this part is no big deal

How can xylenes affect my health?

Xylene affects the brain. High levels from exposure for short periods (14 days or less) or long periods (more than 1 year) can cause headaches, lack of muscle coordination, dizziness, confusion, and changes in one's sense of balance.

that usually happens when SWED

It's not that bad. I use to fill 55 gallon drums all day long with those chemicals. I'll check out my old job if you want and see how five gallons is if you guys want.

Dulux paint shop on Grand Ave in Gurnee IL, east of 41.

Home Depot and Menards were selling it for $10 per gallon. I just did some shopping around. I hear automotive paint shops sell it too.

Bah! I'm not going to be drinking the stuff.

CDC fact sheet isn't particularly scary. (reposting)

My understanding is that you need a lubricating agent in with that stuff. The Supra guys use Marvel Mystery Oil.

Me -- I just run race gas.

Driving school done, ran 20% Xylene/80% 93 Octane. No issues.

sources indicate that xylene is extremly corrosive to plastic/rubber parts.

I spilled a bunch on my shoe with 80% gas... enough for my foot to get wet.

(Checks shoe)

Rubber soul (sole) still fine.
