Default h22's reputation...honest opinions!

This may be a controversial post but I am very eager to find out how other luders feel......Does anyone feel that the H22 lost alot of its "honor" and "glory" as honda's big block my mass producing them into the 5th gen? If so, Would the H22 be worth more to people if they would have only been placed in a VTEC model 5th gen? They are known to be slower then 4th gens and alot less stable. It seems the motors were not as strong...I always am hearing stories of spun bearing in 5th gen h22's. Or how about the guys that are like..."Yeah, I have a Vtec Prelude....5th gen!" That means it is suppose to be some fast car? We who sit in the seats of 4th gens know that having VTEC is a blessing from the car Gods, but we also know that we do not need it to show off the speed and beauties of our cars. When ever some one has a 4th gen w/ an H22 it is like...ahhh...cool!! When 9 times out of 10 that beast of a honda motor was shipped over and dumped in not put in from the Honda plant. Dont get me wrong...I LOVE THE 5TH GENS!! They are beautiful cars and just the fact that it is a Prelude is the main factor. But did they kill the H22? Honest opinions please. AND THAT MEANS AT THE QUESTION, NOT ME!! I LOVE YOUR 5TH GEN!!!

personally to me, I do ohh and ahh more when I see a 4th gen VTEC, however when people sell them they want entirely too much money for them. A '95-96 VTEC often times go for around the 10k range and thats with around 75-100k.
I purchased my '97 SH with 67k on the clock for 9500 and It is in almost excellent condition.
I do not regret my decision to buy my car VS. a 95-95 VTEC one bit even though it is not as rare and is heavier.
I really just dont like the dashes of the bb1s, well the whole interior. I think that is where honda really made vast improvements to the car (IMO). Sure both exteriors are sexy as hell, but the 5th gen has a nicer rear end to me, and it fits in with the rest of the prelude family well. By this I mean the sharp lines of the body styling VS. the 4th gen's smooth styling which does not fit.
I have also always had this idea that 4th gens look much smaller than 5th gens because of the smooth curvature of the body.

WTF are you talking about? honor? glory? it's an engine sheesh...

you are absolutely on crack, and this
<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote"> We who sit in the seats of 4th gens know that having VTEC is a blessing from the car Gods, but we also know that we do not need it to show off the speed and beauties of our cars.</TD></TR></TABLE>

is arguably the lamest thing I've ever heard

hahaha, i wouldn't take it that far, but honestly 4th gens are so much better styled. Much more aggressive. I still look when i see a 5th gen, but that's just cuz it's a lude. we go over this time and time again, but honestly, theyre both nice cars, just too damn heavy and damn FWD

Never knew 5gen was less stable.... And as far as this mystic worship of Honda deities.... I love my 4gen, but... it's a car, mang.

Just curious... Were you high when you posted? Like Sutherland on peyote in the desert in 'Young Guns II'.

The 5th Gen was killed due to bad sells. The motor was and still is great. Many great cars are axed for similar reason. Look at the supra, rx-7, 300zx, 3000GT, etc.

Putting a H22 into every 5th gen did take away the uniqueness of owning a vtec honda, but it wasn't a bad move. Other car makers are putting a single motor in their cars. All Mitsu Evos come with the 4G63, all s2000's get the same motor, all tsx's get the same, etc.

I was always under the impression the h22a1, h22a4, any sort of h22 were about the same as far as reliablity. I haven't had any problems with mine as I approach 90k.

Thats all I have to say about that.

no i wasn't high! i wish, but wasn't!! All that honor and stuff were metaphors! Alot of people have come up to me lately saying all that crap. I was simply wondering if anyone feels the mass producing of the h22 in the 5th gen has hurt the rep. of the motor. I just had to add in the other stuff for fun!! Atleast i got some laughs!! Geezz people!! LOOSEN UP!!! I love the h22! I just think the early models of the h22 were more powerful and unique to find them in 4th gens!

i would tend to agree with you especially the japan spec h22 --- check out the dyno sheet I know that is std hp but still impressive should be more when I get the hondata tuned maybe 210-220 whp we will see --- my vtec engine was produced in 1993 and is in a special edition 1995 green prelude that had a POS H23a to me it felt like a night and day difference
