Honda Civic Type R to be released?
I know I have seen this before on here, But i could not find it...

Would you buy it???
Anyway I'd like to hear your thoughts on it and what would you do to it if you had one?
And does anyone have any concrete ideas if it is coming here?
Motor Trend, October 2004
"Face it: The current Civic Si is a disappointment. It stumbles over its puny 15-inch rolling stock, and its engine is not the rev-happy zinger we've come to expect from Honda. Fear not: Relief is on the way, in the form of the near 200-horse, 146-mph Civic Type R.
Visually, the Type R's stiffened three-door shell gets front and rear roof and underbody spoilers and sits lower on its 17-inch alloys. Inside, the Alcantara trimmed sports seats are embracing, and the titanium metallic trim looks race-car purposeful.
The R's i-VTEC four seems initially unremarkable--just another refined Japanese lump with feeble low-end torque (145 Ib-ft at a high 5900 rpm). Real performance always seems a downshift away in most real-life conditions. What it likes is revs--and lots of them. Power begins to pick up at 5500 rpm, and from 6000 to the eight-grand redline, you're flying, reeling in the horizon at a rate that would've embarrassed most multicylindered exotica not many years ago--delivered with a raw, visceral yowl. Having six tightly spaced gears helps, too.
Like the engine, the chassis responds best to rough treatment rather than timidity. Somewhat lifeless and synthetic at low speeds, the electrically powered steering gives a more realistic impression of what the front wheels are doing the faster you go. Wimp out, and all you'll get is understeer. The roll-free poise and magnetic grip are there to be explored and exploited, with no traction control to curb your excesses or smooth over your mistakes.
Honda hasn't publicly said the Type R is coming to the U.S.--but we say it's a done deal. If you're in the market for that kind of focused, high-commitment driving all the time, you'll love the Type R, though less-aggressive pilots may tire of it quickly.

sorry if this is a re-post that no one cares about- I thought with that petition thread I found this would be an interesting follow up

It's a bubble on wheels. Looks more like a teenagers car, and in my opinion doesn't seem all that interesting. I'd go w/ a RSX Type S before I bought one of those
I would definitely rock it as a daily driver and store the DC2-R as a weekend car.
I think the Honda Fit will make it here before the Civic Type R does.

I am really unsure if the CTR is actually coming here, but I would sense that Honda is seeing the painfully weak outcries of the Si. I think that if I were to own a CTR, I'd mod it just a little, but it would be kept mostly stock. I don't think that the CTR would be as publically track dedicated like the ITR.

Personally, I'd give more credit to the CTR than the RSX-S. I really don't like the RSX-S and I see way more capability in terms of performance in the CTR. (stock v. stock) I will agree however that it does look like a teenage bubble mobile.

Who leaves a car stock? The RSX holds it ground...it badly needs an LSD...but you can NEVER go wrong with more displacement.

I think there would be too much competition between the CTR and the RSX-S for it to be worth it for Honda. They would be similarly priced with many of the same performance numbers and features.

motor trend october 2004??? and they were estimating the ctr to come out last year? fishy article.
honda is doing fine with the regular civics; i mean if millions of people pay 16,000 for a single cam that acts like the ones 10 years ago - honda doesnt need to brind the ctr over
- if honda keeps selling brand new civics that still function exactly as the ones in 1993, its definitely a poor step for honda.

imo the usdm si isnt even comparable to the ctr. which is really sad. i almost feel sorry for anyone with a new si. they could have just baught a regular used civic.

I think it would appeal to teenagers well, because that SRT-4 is a cheap car yet fast. Not many teenagers can afford a RSX type S or something of that calliber, but a CTR would fit into their choice of style, speed, and price.
Personally i think it would make a nice 2nd cah to roll around in....i just dont know if i would dish out that kinda cash
The information in that article has been circulating for a long, long time and it has been pretty much debunked. The 2005 brochures are out in all markets and there is no EP3 CTR in the USDM.
I rather doubt they'd bring it out as a 2005 1/2 model because of the expense of getting it here for just a few thousand cars to be sold.
It would also be too expensive, costing more than the DC5 USDM Type S.
I've never understood that. The margin is there to lower the sale price of the EP3. I bought my USDM EP3 for 15,995 and at that price I thought it was a nice little car. However, at 19,800 there are just too many better buys to be had, IMHO.
Now...if that 19,800 got a K20A2 or K20Z1, that'd be a different story.
They <u>could</u>'ve done it, but I think it's too late, now.
P.S. Don't post this in DC5/EP3 Forum or anywhere at K20A.org unless you want people to jump all over you.
The article is notorious among the K crowd.
