Are you coming to a complete stop before shifting into reverse? Have you tried selecting a forward gear before selecting reverse to make sure the input shaft stops spinning?

Does it grind when shifting into 3rd?

Yup u gotta do a complete stop, then hit reverse. Or when u first start up your car, throw it in first then hit reverse.

If not, think syncrhomesh would help???

That started happening to my car, and a week later I had no reverse anymore. Overtime I was having difficulty putting into reverse, and it made a bad grinding noise everytime that it did go. Turns out the synchros were totally shot, cost alot of money to replace that ****.

Place it in 5th gear, then Neutral, then Reverse. It will not grind.

Actually it couldn't have been synchronizers, since reverse isn't synchronized . . .

Reverse is the only gear in your transmission that doesn't have its teeth permanently meshed. Thus, you will actually mess up the teeth on the mainshaft gear and the idler gear if you constantly grind it. Once that happens, you have to tear down the mainshaft and replace it (what fun! ).

Yes, since there seems to be a shaft still spinning in there when it shouldn't be, it is more than likely that either the clutch was installed improperly, or some part of the cluth has failed prematurely (maybe a spring popped out or something).

First check the clutch hydraulic system. If everything looks okay with that, then you're probably going to have to drop the transmission to inspect the clutch itself . . .

thats almost impossible. Keep your foot ON the clutch- go into a forward gear and then into reverse with your foot staying on the clutch. Like Targo said, this stops the mainshaft from spinning. There should be no way it would grind if a forward gear is selected first. It may be a little hard getting it into reverse if the teeth aren't lined up properly, but shouldn't grind- because no gears are spining
