Default when trying to install tranny I heard pop noise...

after sliding the tranny on the motor it stops with about 1/2" gap left between tranny and motor. while holding the tranny up with one hand I put in the bolts hand tight and then started tightening the bolts...
I noticed at first it was not even and while I kept turning bolts to try and make it even I heard a pop noise from the tranny, I tried a few moer times and heard about 5 pops total.
I loosened all the bolts and started over again and it finally went on smoothly.

so my question is what were the "pops" and did I mess up the tranny?

I used the alignment tool that came with the clutch to mount the pressure plate...

thanks for any input!

Honestly I would say you are fine
Did you inspect the trans after removing it the 2nd time?

There are two dowel pins that position the bellhousing onto the engine block. Sometimes they get rusty or they may have been misaligned and as you tightened the housing bolts, they slid into place.

yes I looked inside the bell housing and at the bearing in the flywheel. I wasn't sure if the shaft hit the bearing on the fw and maybe that pushed the gears somehow... I'm pretty sure it wasnt the dowel pins making the noise, it was comming from inside the tranny case. which still makes me worried

keep the ideas comming

Check the end lash on the tranny main shaft. You may have screwed something up internal.

paranoid. If it is already bolted to the motor, Then slap the rest of it together. If you get it all back together and something is messed up, then start to take it back apart, but I doubt that there is anything wrong.
