This is very OT, but I thought it might apply to a number of people here, given how many are selling their Rs lately. What I'm wondering is what happens if someone is test driving your car and they damage it or crash it? Knowing that there will undoubtedly be some punk kids who want to "experience the INSANITY of the HYPE R!!!" or whatever will want to take it for a spin, and also knowing that their driving ability will most likely be about on par with a poorly trained monkey, I'm hesitant to let them drive it at all. But of course, I'm also willing to take advantage of said monkeyish kid and have him pay me what I want for the car. So does anyone have any ideas? Would it be an insurance thing? I would prefer it to be a "you broke it, you bought it" sort of thing, but that may not always be possible, depending on the financial situation of the test drivee.
I forgot more about hondas then you will ever know....

simple, don't let anyone drive the car.... seriously. let them go over the car as much as they want, then take them for a ride wherever they want., but do not let them drive the car. that has been my philosophy for 15 years now, and has worked just fine. it is wuite possible for me to come over, "test drive" your car, break something then walk away. don;t put yourself in that situation. also, especially with the R, you will get a lot of people that "i'll buy it, but i just need to sell my car...." f that. most of the time that goes nowhere, especially if they are younger. good luck.

Correct!
I have only let one person test drive a car of mine. but that was a $500 car
Do not let anyone drive your R unless they have paid in full and signed all the paper work- Don't get caught in a bad place.

Money talks. Have them thorougly check out the car (ext, int & mechanical). Then, if they are satisfied, have them put down a $250-$1000 deposit (to test drive). It is non-refundable if he agrees that all mechanical (i.e. test drive) are good. It prevents any joy-riding.
I know that given that they have a decent insurance policy, it covers them driving other cars, just like I'm covered for driving other people's (parents, friends, girlfriends) cars occasionally. It all depends who is behind the wheel I suppose.
However, not getting screwed by insurance when it comes time to make a claim is a whole different story, especially if an asshat does something really dumb. Not to mention you will be "out" a caR after all is said and done...
Just install a driving school pedal in the R
, or better yet a kill switch on the passenger side of the car...

Now see, I'm having two thoughts here:

That's my opinion about buying a car. I can't say for sure what other people think, but if I can't drive it, I'm not buying it, especially if it's a car I'm not familiar with. However, clearly I'm concerned about it. This other idea:

sounds like a good one. That could at least weed out the total goobs. Thanks for the opinions everyone.
Oh, and as for the pedal thing, I thought in a worst case scenario I could just reach over and turn the car off and pull the keys. Of course, if we're mid-corner or something, that's another story. Is there anyway to check someone's drivers license out prior to a test drive?

Yup.
Call your Ins Broker, they should be able to run a license but might cost you a few $.

Yeah dude, never let anyone drive your R without full comfirmation of you payment. When I was looking for an R, every R owner that I encounter wouldn't let drive. But they will test the car for me. Me being a honest and serious buyer I can respect that. Just keep in mind that if the buyer can't respect your wishes on looking out for the car and yourself, then the buyer isn't going to be the one that will respect the car in the same way.
Just my opinion
Good Luck in everything and be careful

Listen to this guy
He tends to break loads of his own **** left and right.
How many axles was it last count doodie?
I have a simple theory too, I let rodney drive and codrive my car any time he wants. Only stipulation is he has to fix it when he breaks it.
Going by his track record on the hatchcrap though, I must be crazy to let him race my car
Seriously though, I do agree with what Chris said.
