Catalitic converter?

I bought my GSR back in january. the previous owner had already done some stuff to it, such as VAFC, CAI, and an exhaust tip...ect... To this day since I bought the car I noticed that it sounded a little raspy, barely noticable but you can still hear it. So I just assumed that it was the exaust tip the previous owner had installed. Just a week or so ago the car threw a code, I looked it up and it was a code 1(O2A - Oxygen sensor #1) So I decided to get under the car and check it out, and on a hunch I just went ahead and removed the catalitic converter, and to my supprise I could see from one end to the other clearly!! its basicly just an empty shell. So my question is what are the pros and cons of gutting out the catalitic converter? im mostly worried about the cons.
Had my catalic converter takn out when i put a new exhaust on. The guy that did it said there purpose is to convert some harmful gases into less harmful ones for the atmosphere or some ****? So performance wise im thinking they dont do a hell of a lot with or without them.

That raspy metal sound is common with Integras. It's usually the A-pipe connector just before the cat. If you hear this sound between 2000-3500 RPMS or just past/before then it's the A-pipe. Else, it could be loose bolt that holds the heatshields on your header. This also only happens after your car warms up.
That catalic converter that you found is basically a test pipe with a cat housing. You will not pass smog legally with that for sure, but if that's not a problem, then leave it on. On a second note, I barely notice youre from FL where smog isn't an issue.
PROS: better exhaust flow
CONS: bad for the environment
BTW: an exhaust tip isn't really considered a mod

Tell that to the cops!
Yeah smog testing ain't a problem here. Basicly I just wanted to know if gutting out the catilitic conver could cause any harm to the car in any way shape or form. But from whats been posted here, I can see that its not a problem, that is unless your a tree hugging hippie!
As for hoping to make the car faster or more powerful by gutting the catilitic converter... I would just instead take a page from these guys book... http://www.leghumper.com/forum...=free

cats affect the way the exhaust sounds also, thus explaining why your stock exhaust sounded raspy. they 'smooth' out the tone. jfyi, cats' main function is to reduce the amount of hydrocarbons (like carbon monoxide) released into the air.

it depends wut ur setup is if your turbod it would help if you take it out if your na a good flowing aftermarket cat would make around the same gains as having no cat. but the race aftermarket ones usually dont last long/and dont help much with smog.

this guy is taking about the heatshields making a vibrating noise which could be your problem.

i was thinking more towards this. the car sounds raspy because you have no cat.

get this fixed if it was an error with the second one it wont be as big as a problem the primary o2 tells the computer if you have the right air fuel mixture. get it fixed. this problem is not due to gutting the cat because the primary is before the cat. is your car tuned on teh vafc or did you just press some buttom because maybe your running too rich? which fuxored the sensoR.

Well, I never messed with the VAFC I just left it as it was when I purchased the car. I did take it to a local shop to have them take a look at it and basicly just make sure the settings in the VAFC is where its supposed to be, after all the car is basicly stock.
But I think it is running too rich, cuz when after the car is warmed up if I rev a little or just let it idle I can smell gasoline in the air.

on my si i had, i was running no cat and I just disconnected the o2 and went to a mugen chipped p28 obd1 computer.
And for the people that are saying taking out the cat on an all motor application doesn't help, your wrong. You feel a gang of top end, even though I was running toda spec Bs. but when I put the cat back on for emissions, i felt a big *** difference in top end
