Not always. The only way you get coolant in the oil is if the gasket fails between the water jacket and the cylinder. A lot of times it goes out between cylinders and you'll get loss of compression across the affected ones.

funny story. When in put my b18c in my crx i empty the radiator and oil started poring out of it. I was like **** the d16a6 must have had a blown headgasket but the car was runn 15.3s at the track still and getting close to 40 mpg. Some cars just act differently.

Sounds like the gasket had a pinhole leak between the oil squirter into the head and the water jacket. Just a guess though.
