whats the differences between axle back systems and catback systems? axleback systems seem to generally be 1/2 the cost of a catback exaust..........lmk advantages, etc

cat back means the system comes with all new piping from the catalytic converter back. axle back means you still will use your stock B-pipe. an axle back will bolt on to the end of that.
advantage of a catback is piping. it is the same diameter the whole way through, even in the bends. if it is a quality system. if you own a type-r, all you need is a axle back because the piping is already mandrel bent.
the only good advantage of an axle back is the price.

so basically, theyre charging double for a foot or so of pipe? if i bought an axle back system, could i goto a muffler shop and have them make me some custom piping for my b-pipe?

Its actually more like 6 feet of pipe. You could go to a muffler shop but you don't really end up saving that much money. I would go with a catback myself, but that is just me.

buy pre bent pieces from JCWhitney (mandral bent) weld them together....get a universal muffler like ES or Magnaflow...cheap and the same power

Not worth it! I looked into building a custom mandrel bent system from Magnaflow and it would've ended up costing the same, even more if you dont do it yourself. Axle backs are like $250, when you can get a complete Cat-Back from like $350 if you know where to look. Keeping the mid-section pipe (b or whatever) will drastically inhibit performance...like those mufflers that 'claim' to add 12hp!!! They dont add crap....save up and get a cat-back..you wont be disappointed.

don't do the universal exhaust. they don't sound the same and you'll regret it because i did. now i have Greddy evo and love it. go with a good quality catback system. i reccomend Greddy...

go full cat back. A cheap way out is just wasting money till you get the real deal.

$89 for muffler+$125 for pieces of piping.....10 minutes of welding

~$219

if you want to pay more for a name go ahead, or if your like me, you would rather pay less for the same thing

sound has to do with the design of the exhaust...a similarly designed universal exhaust will have the same sound as a mass produced cat back...if you want quality, magnaflow offers lifetime warranties on their mufflers (at least they used to)...does greddy offer that on their exhausts?
