what would cause the idle to rev up to 4 k at start up? it revs up to 4 k then starts to fluctuate to 2 grand then goes up to 4. it does this with 2 second intervals.

 

sounds like a small leak in the vaccum line

 

ive had vaccum leaks b4 but this hasnt been the result of one. are u sure?

 

Yeah, you gots a vaccum leak somewhere. Had the same problem with my 88' Accord beater. When just ideling it would always jump up and down in revs. Sorta sucks when your next to rice machines cause they think you wanna race

::EDIT:: On another thought it might be your throttle body as well. Might have something stuck in there causeing it fluctuate. Mechanic can prolly clear it out for you, if not, you need a new one.

 

think i had same prob on my old 87 accord it was slow idle valve was a pretty cheap fix.

 

same thing happend to my car...... check your "idle air control vavle" its right under your TB .....you're going to need to take it apart to see the problem.... its 5 bolts all together noo biggie...
