Default Get more power to the ground...

I have a 98 5th gen SS. I layed down a baseline run of 135hp bone stock. I recently got my engine tuned up and it feels perfect. I have 60k on it so i know the motor is feeling strong but i am loosing massive amounts of power through the drivetrain. Is there anything i can to to the tranny to get more to the ground?
I know that i should get a manual swap but thats out of the question so dont tell me that.

Hmmm..try lightening things up. Lightwieght flywheel/clutch, lightwieght wheels/lugnuts, pulleys...I don't know what you could actually do to the tranny, though.

There's lots of options, but I chose a Fidanza 8lb flywheel and an Exedy Stage 2 Cerametallic 3-Puck Thin Disc (that's a long-*** name, but the actual clutch disc is lightweight as well).

Sorry, I didn't even think about your SS being an auto...

Short answer, no. You can build up your motor and that will put down more power overall, but you will still have major loss through the tranny. Build it much and you get to the issue of increasing stress on the tranny.

Like many have told you before, your best option is put all your stock stuff on your prelude, sell it, and buy a manual. By investing all this stuff in an auto, you are just throwing away money that could be spent on another car that would really make you happy. Just my opinion, of course.

I've seen A LOT of these gen 5 SS ludes having baseline dynos in the 135-145 so perhaps this is an appropriate range for the SS? You can do the normal I/H/E mods but when you start doing more serious work your trannys is going to continue to be your weakpoint. It can't handle that much power stock without assistance like a tranny cooler or something. You should really consider a manual swap...

My 2 cents

People tell me that i should just sell my lude and get a manual one, but wouldnt the amout of money i would loose on selling my car equal that of the manual swap into the car i have now? Every post i see about an auto to manual swap i always ask about a ballpark figure for the cost and no one knows. How much will it be to swap?

thats because the answer is always "It depends"......always
how much can you do yourself? Do you know people that can help? Can you get a deal on this part or that part? Etc.... I know youve heard this before but you should return your car to stock and sell it to some old guy and then buy a Manual tranny one or a 4th gen

You should be able to sell it for more than a comparable manual one, as a car is worth more with an auto to the average consumer. Check Kelly Blue Book at http://www.kbb.com if you don't believe me. Use that extra money to cover your tax, fees, etc. and maybe you will have a little left over for mods.

I bought my tranny for $700 shipped. I had it installed w/the jack shaft rewelded for about $200. It doesn't cost very much at all.

did u already have a manual?
dont forget he is going to need a pedal assembly, master and slave cylinder, and manual ecu as well as the tranny, clutch, and flywheel. Manual cams wouldnt hurt either.
anything else? I cant remember off the top of my head.
ONe thing I can tell u Italian, is you can expect to pay about $750- $1000 for an aftermarket clutch and flywheel set.

Yeah I didn't think of all that.

I paid about $500 for an exedy clutch and fidanza flywheel.

yea you should sell it and buy a manual one. You won't lose money on your car if you sell it. You have to factor in depreciation, if you bought it for $10,000 and have it for 5 years and put 60,000 miles on it it's not going to be worth $10,000 still. It depreciates every day.

SS is sport shift (teptronic)

I got more torque than u got horsepower! oh the shame. lol ditch that tranny man. do a 5spd conversion.

You should have done some research before you bought a lude then tried to make it fast only to discover auto/ss transmissions suck *** for racing applications.
