Default What's so great about the LS/VTEC?

So what is it about the LS/VTEC and B20/VTEC? Besides the bigger displacement?

Doesn't a B18B have good low end torque? Is it the same for a B20?

the vtec enables the engine to breath better than the ls head. Better breathability mated to the low end torque and longer stroke of the ls/b20 make a good combination but will cost $$$ to make it reach the vtec redline reliably.

b18a/b has a longer stoke giving it more low end torque and the vtec head gives it the top end power

not trying to be an ***, but i keep seeing your posts and they seem to be basic questions that can be found with the search button. it takes time and a lot of reading to get the knowledge you're looking for.

so the longer stroke is what gives it all the torque?

that is correct
that is why the b16 has less torque than the b18's because the stroke in a b16 is shorter

Default MMMMMM-HMMMMMMMMM

I see that it's basically common sense, because the piston has a longer stroke to move down and increase how hard it is turning, which is what torque is...

I love your honest, persistence will take you far. Just remember the longer stroke you have the less rod stroke ratio you have which in turn lowers your red line. Bouncing off the rev limiter in a b16a is alot more forgiving than doing it on an ls/vtec. There are some good sites on this if your seriously intereste, go to msn.com and do a search ls/vtec.
