Well the other day I hydrolocked my motor. I was taking my gf to work, and I noticed that it was sprinkling outside so I said to myself... "nothing serious could happen, **** it run with my cai." So when I was driving, it was dark and I couldnt see a thing. Next thing you know i was running over the little puddles that build up on the side of the street. The puddles were about an inch deep...so...my wheels started kicking water to the sidewalk and to the filter. And the NEXT thing I know, BAM my car shutted off instantly. I was amazed that such a thing could happen, because the only stories i've read were about filters submerging under water and stuffs. BUT **** I was rolling on shallow water and the ******* little puddles hydrolocked my ***! Anywhos, I tried to start up the motor 2 more times to see if it was really a electrical problem or a hydrolock. Turn ignition, no crank...but ptt...like i had no charge at all. Pushed the car home...into the garage...worked on it right away. Took off everything, from my intake manifold, header, and valve cover.
Right when I took off my intake manifold it started pouring out gallons full....I was like "WHOA **** MAN!" Took off my header nothing was there...took off my valve cover...looked into the cylinders and 1,2,4 cylinders were flooded. I looked at my valves and all they seem to be okay...none of them were bent at all. So I do hope there is still some hope for me. AT least let me keep the head!
As of right now : I got mostly all of the water out of the cylinders...cleaned everything, drained all the oil and coolant. And waiting for tomorrow to finish up drying some more to insure my safety.
Do you guys have any advice? What should I do?
EDIT : LMAO I have 3 friends that recently just hydrolocked their cars! And get this...one of them was using the stock intake! How'd that happend? Well...full heads in the hatch into a 2 feet deep puddle will sure **** you up! LMAO!
Im glad im not the only one whod hydrolocked
Be careful OC! RAIN IS THE ENEMY!

Take the oil pan off and start taking the rods/pistons out. I'm sure you have a bent rod or two.
That sucks man, so do you still have splash gaurds around your wheels or what?

sometimes you get lucky and it just shuts the motor off but what kills it is trying to start it up and running it again with water in it without checking.... thats how it happened to me and my hole in my block
Correct me if I'm wrong, but it sounds as though you're not running your fender linings? The only time I've heard of anyone locking an engine without submerging, they didn't have their fender linings on.
Take out the plugs, disable spark and fuel, then crank the engine over. Hopefully it'll spit out the water, and you might be okay.

Just tear it apart and see what you find. I've heard so many of these stories and I've decided to stay away from cai's for this reason. I know it isn't entirely the cai's fault because you lacked inner linings, but with a stock box or short ram this shouldn't have been as big of a problem. I wish ya luck man!
Back then when I had CAI, I used to drive in the rain and run over puddles and nothing happened.. thanks to the fender liners. Maybe you should put them back on.

You're playing with fire running without fender liners and a CAI with no bypass valve. Don't know how effective those bypass valves are either. So here's the math:
slammed to the weeds (looks good but now you have little to no suspension travel) + CAI (sounds good with a 2 HP gain - woot) + 1-2" high puddles = a fuxored motor
Just tear it down and pray nothing's busted but with "gallons" of water in the intake manifold I wouldn't have high hopes. Good luck.

Diconnect your coil, pull the FI fuse in the engine compartment, pull your plugs, pull the head and the oil pan... dry everything out as best as you are able...
The number one reason that I do not have a CAI..... the only way for me to hydrolock my motor is if I drive into a lake....
then I might have other problems as well..

just a quick question about those of you running stock intake boxes, are you guys running both top box and bottom boxes?? im just running the top box and some chicken wire under to keep debris out.
sucks to be you trooper
happened to my first motor it was fine for the first few days but it was too late a rod had already bent but then out with the old in with the new.

lol oops .. sorry
lol oops .. sorry
this happened to me b4 i knew about trying to crank it while the h20 was in it!! no damage though, and i was able to pull the plugs and just pump the water out. changed the oil and no more problems. i still hit vtec and rev it up high and it still pulls just like it did b4 the whole incident, so maybe you have some hope! how fast were you going when it happened (RPMS too)?? i think the reason it didn't hurt my motor too much is because i was coasting so i was at about 1000rpms.
im lowered 1", run an aem CAI that goes into the front bumper, i have my fender liners... gf has been driving the car everyday since its been raining and theres been no problems... when i went out this morning for her to drive me to work, the water level was even at the bottom of the doors... (ca drain pipes suck)... started the car and she drove away just fine...
