Default Running open header?

Is thier any advantages to this? Long time ago I tried it to go down the street and it felt like crap. But now I have a new car/setup and wondering if this will help me out for an upcoming event.

Im running open header right now with my new motor, GSR with 13:1 cr with S2S3s on 96 octane, feels ok to me, probably would feel like 100 times better if it was tuned, I think if you have like a pretty built motor you will notice it more, you know how it is though, most of us love the sound VTEC makes with open header, makes a V8 sound like a ***** car.

I know going to open header from restricted exhaust feels like you gained 20 whp. It really just all depends. If you have a good flowing exhaust, I suspect you wouldn't be able to tell much difference

how are public street racing laws are regulate in floriday...here in California police starting to pop the hood and watch for engine bay ...illegal swap will be impound and get auction...that's sux..no point for open header here.....im sure you can gain more than usually but it runs like crap on low end...disadvantage...it stink and killing my ear drums

In missouri, the government is oblivious to modding pretty much I had a b16 in a 87 hatch, they opened the hood and the charcoal canister was unhooked and they said looks fine. Not to mention that engine completely doesn't belong in the bay.

open header many many many many many times, everytime i would switch something....**** i drove around open header for about 2-3 weeks, the cops just looked at me, and looked the other way....****, when i first put my B16A in .....i drove open header, and no hood..the cops just asked...what is that shiny bar in the engine bay, and the other one was like "sweet!", i have had exhausts that you can hear over 1/2 mile away..and gotten on it next to the cop.....LOL...modded hondas are not considered a threat here.....they dont pull me over for illegal everything on my car...but they will sure jump on the ricer with the LED washers in a second, or the old lady driving too slow....love it love it love it

I was running an Almost full 3" exhaust on my civic so it could be dyno'd quitely during the day.. After hours we ripped it off and ran our oped header set up which drops to a 2 1/2" pipe, we tuned it and gained 3-5whp across the board... This is on a stock JDM K20A..

Yo pj, i heard running a 24" test pipe after the collector would be better than just running open header. The reason being is to maintain flow and keep the scavenging effect.

Thats how I run at the track.

open headers are suppose to help u out at top end, thats why people run it......... it feels sluggish at first because there isnt back pressure, but once u get on it and its up in the high revs thats when it actually does something plus depending on ur set up of course

Backpressure will cause power loss not gain, think about it for a min....Pulse scavenging and the lack there of is what would cause the loss you speak of.

i thought it worked this way, top end is better with open headers do to the faster moving exchaust gas escaping but yet u dont make as much torque..... whyle running say 4-2-1 headers make better torque numbers do to back pressure but not to much top end cause of the less amount of pressure being let out? i dont kno i just thought it worked like that

Try it paul, compare times from a 24" test pipe and open header. That should prove enough to you. And the test pipes can be had cheap too. Can't hurt.

backpressure is no good. It's the smaller diameter of the piping that allows faster velocity at lower rpm. At higher rpm, the smaller piping is going to hinder the flow. It's gas velocity, has nothing to do with backpressure.

What kind of setups are you guys running that's making more power with an open header? What kind of power is setup putting out? I ran my car at the track with just a jdm itr 4-1 and it ran the exact same time and mph as when I had a 2.5" exhaust on. But that was because my vtec was set at 4500rpm and rev limiter was at 7800rpm (auto pr3 ecu).

Dont want to sound like a know it all but,You never want back pressure thats a kinda figure of speech. What you want is as small a tubing as you can get away with .That keeps up the velocity. Its like blowing through a straw or a piece of pipe
Which one feels like it has the most pressure?

No no not becasue of backpressure my friend becasue of the tune of the car. Also take into consideration your o2 sensor sits very close to that collector outlet and when you are running open header you are most likeley going to have some wacked o2 readings.

WELL AT LEAST ON THE DYNO WE HAVE SEEN MANY CARS (STOCK) GAIN 3-5 HP FROM DISCONNECTING THE EXHAUST IN FRONT OF THE CAT
