ls 5th gear or final
im planning on tossing out my pos 91 ls ys1 tranny, the gears are too tall for my motor, so i've been looking for some trannys and it seems that the s1 tranny is in abundance, for more than the 92-93 usdm gsr ys1 that i want, but the price is kinda hefty from the places i've seen selling them. so i've also read about people taking the final or 5th gear out the of the ls tranny and placing them into a short geared tranny, like the s1,j1 or y1. now, is this a strait up swap, yanking out the s1's final or 5th, and replace them w/ the ls's? which part is desirable to replace? the 5th gear or final drive? and by doing this i will have bad *** 1-4th gear and have a nice freeway friendly 5th gear correct? im not going to be swaping out the gears myself, i know a nice reputable tranny shop near by so i'd have them do all that stuff, but what parts are needed to swap over? is it just the gear? or are there other plates or parts that work w/ the gears needed to swap over also? thanks

I have a nice J1 tranny for sale. 4.400 final drive and USDM ITR gearing. Look at the chart and you'll see why the J1 is the bomb.
