use the aluminum its lighter, weight is your foe.the lighter your car the more HP you will have. remember that 6lb = 1HP.

lol what ? Stop spreading b.s . Depending on how the mounts are made, steel will be stronger, don't worry about the weight.

...I don't have a degree in mechanics... but wtf?

You won't get more HP, you'll go faster based on your current horsepower.

160HP B16 CRX stock body lets' say for agruments sake 2200lb.
It runs (once again only arguments) 14.5 1/4 mile.

Now you put a carbon fiber hood on it, strip interior, and now it's 1950lb.
It runs 14.0 1/4 mile for arguments sake

Where's the horsepower gain, Einstein? A Turbo gains horsepower, weight reduction makes it lighter. It may seem like it has more power, but it's still 160HP. It just has less to tug on, so therefore, goes faster.

Based on your logic of 6lb = 1hp here's a funny thought:

The avreage civic weighs 2200lbs give or take. A B16 has 160HP (in a car lets say to make your idiot mathamatics work) if 6lb = 1hp then a stock b16a1 has:

526hp outside of a car
160hp installed

A+ Dr.

Weight reduction does not add HP but I know what you meant. However, weight does rob power when it comes to accelerating. Since our cars are already front heavy, any weight you can save up front will help weight distribution and you accelerate/decelerate faster. All the little things can add up so if you can use the aluminum one safely...go for it. Engines, subframes, etc of most quality new cars today are aluminum. 14 lbs is certainly worth going Al but I wouldn't use a polyurethane bushing with it. The problem with Al is that it is brittle.

Ok gang; I am an engineer (that and two bucks gets me a Starbucks coffee).

There are positive things to say about both materials and also limitations.

Aluminum may be lighter based on volume, but is not as strong. As a result, if you want to design two different items that have the same strength, they might end up weighing pretty much the same.

It's a good learning thing to go by a high end bicycle shop and look at the configuration of bikes made of different materials. You would notice that the aluminum bikes use a larger tube diameter. This is to provide a similar strength (and ride quality) as a traditional steel frame.

Then look at the titanium and carbon fiber bikes!

Look at the welds and such.

High end bicycle frame development is VERY competive and it give a good idea of the limitations of the different materials and how engineers work around them.

Just to dovetail what Wes is saying:

Al is about 1/3 the wieght of steel and 1/3 of the strength, unless it is a alloy material then it could have some significant strength to weight advantage over mild steels.

No ****. I'm a stickler for weight savings, but for critical parts such as motor mounts, I'm gonna have those suckers made out of the strongest metal possible, regardless of how much they weigh.

If you wanna reduce weight, run 2 miles every other day, drop 15 lbs yourself.

if you are really torn about what to do, then just steal some aluminum mounts. after that go eat some shito mix.....mmmmm.

sounds like too many people are trying to sound smart.

power to weight ratio. you cant relate weight to a hp gain, its a gain in acceleration.

and there is no number to say x lbs taken out is x hp gain. its different on every car, and there is no true accurate way to test it. you just take a bunch of weight out and it will accelerate faster.

ps. aluminum is plenty strong. your motor isnt going to be jumping out of the compartment.

Hey I didn't know this was a ripping site made up so that we can talk **** on people, I know this is to help each other', SO all you smart *** Fn geniuses put a car on a Dino test it with your fat asses in it and then test the car on the Dino without your fat asses in it and see if you get any HP gains at the wheels you bunch of un experienced F.

Some of the best cars are made of aluminum and all these cars will blow the doors off all hondas.

If you put it on a mustang dyno you might, but in real life and on a dyno that don't put load on the wheels to simulate road conditions then you won't. A lighten flywheel does not even give you horse power, it frees horse power up.

Yeah that's because Honda's are not sports car.

this thread is really funny.

after i take a dump I am able to run faster cause i weigh less. THat must mean my legs are stronger after I dump.

Take a engine put it on a dino and get the crank HP. Then put the same engine in a car and get the wheel HP it will be less. its that simple.

hey guy some dynos measure the weight before they start to load the wheels correctly.

might that be what you're witnessing?

EDIT: it seriously is a fact that your car does NOT have more hp when you make it lighter. Period. Something is confusing you. You will not learn anything here if you don't admit you're wrong and find out why.

Keep on denying that you're wrong and you'll waste your time and probably someone else's... but i'm done with you.

GOod luck.
