Default Heat sink on oil pan

Anyone ever thought about putting a heatsink across the bottom of the oilpan (parallel to the cars motion)?

Are you talking a 2in. heat sink - such as a computer's CPU fan? Why no relocate you A/C fan to under oil pan and connect it to your thermostat, so it turns on at 180 degree's or so.

This actually is a pretty cool idea.

Wouldn't an oil cooler be a much easier alternative?

I would just run an oil cooler, however, I have seen heat sinks that slip over the oil filter.

Yeah, i was considering buying one of these oil filter slip on coolers. But i figured why bother? i've got no turbo and basically stock internals.

The oil filter idea doesn't work all too well because there's no decent air going across it. The pan idea is much more sound. This is what my heat transfer professor was saying when we were discussing a project that we might do. I don't know if anyone is going to try it. I'd like to see the results, though.
