Default Loose piston pin- causes? dangers?

hi,
I have my bottom end dissasembled yesterday because of knocking sound coming from there on a cold engine. I thought these were bearings knocking because of mileage (228kkm=140k mi) . After disassembly it appeared that bottom end is near out-of-factory condition but the pin to rod gap seems to be a little excessive causing the con-rod swinging a bit and knocking.
The question is: how dangerous could it be? What could cause this situation?

Any input appreciated

Rebush the rods - not very expensive, not very complicated, especially if the engine is disassembled.
