okay, so i was at knott's scary farm (CA) on saturday night when the first rain of the season came down - and it came down ******* HARD. anyway, my friends and i were DRENCHED. i was lucky to get out of the street i was parked on okay considering it was half flooded. but in the process of changing clothes at a gas station (in the car), my friend got my passenger side front floormat soaked. when i got home i pulled it out and dried it, but noticed that the carpet under it was soaked too.
so i pushed on it and you could hear water underneath it. not a lot, but enough that it's still wet 3 days later. the weather is not getting any hotter so it won't evaporate over time, and i don't know what to do short of going at it for an hour with my tiny *** hair dryer. i've been soaking it with towels occasionally but its still wet and now my car smells like old water. what can i do?

can you get hold of one of those carpet cleaners or a wet/dry vac? vacuuming it out if its really that much. thats all I can think of now
I left my sunroof open one rainy day. The shop vac recommendation is a go, but they don't hold a candle to the vac's at a car wash or gas station.

damn, the same thing happened to me when the hurricane hit here. my whole passenger side was flooded 3''-4'' inches of water. well, i work at a dealership and i talked to some of the recon guys about what to do. long story short, if you dont want any mildew smell in your car (because there will be) you must :
-take out all of your carpet....i had to cut in one or two places:
-remove all existing carpet padding from the car/back of carpet
-get ahold of a pressure washer and a cleaning solvent (i used a product called 'mean green' it works wonders)
-spray solvent on carpet ... you dont need much
-pressure wash entire carpet (it took me a good 5-10 minutes) making sure to hit every area
-let dry in sunlight
-apply new carpet padding in place of the old ones and install your fresh, mildew-free carpet
its a pain in the *** but worth it for the sake of knowing bacteria isn't breeding in your car

fortunately i just found out you can peel back the passenger side carpet enough to get under it and dry it (thanks to velcro on the front).
unfortunately for me i also found out that my friend sitting in the rear got that side soaked too.
gonna take a hair dryer to it all for a good hour or so, then some febreeze. i'm in the dorms so i have no methods, space nor tools to take out the carpet.
