Default Question about the Purge Control Solenoid Valve

It seams to be making a ticking noise and the car is running rough. When I unplug it the ticking goes away and the idle goes down a bit. Does this mean the the valve is bad? Any help would be great. Thanks in advance!

You can use a MityVac to check the solenoid valve. Make jumpers to energize the valve from the battery. Check that it opens & closes. But it sounds like it closes OK when you unplug it.

Then there's the vacuum hoses, one going down to the canister. A bigger hose for the purge flow comes from there to the intake. The vacuum-controlled valve on the EVAP canister might be sluggish? That way it's staying open too long when the ECU only wants to open it for a moment??
