HOLY SHIT DID I SUCK WATER THROUGH MY INTAKE! rain season starts for cali :(
I never before had a problem with my CAI, but this summer I pulled my fender liner. Was driving in the rain yesterday, freeways were wet. Got off the freeway, gased it hard in 1st until I realized I wasnt making any power. My first thought was water getting sucked through the intake, ALOT of it. I can picture a steady stream of water just creeping up my intake, apexi power intake filter W/aem cai. It felt like it had a bogging feel, sorta like when you gas it in 4th gear, its, weak sauce. But this was happening in 1st. Was not slipping the clutch cause rmp's were consistant with speed. Im hesient(sp) to start my car, dont wannt cold start a motor with water in it. But could it just be my filter was saturated with water and couldnt do its job.
I'm running my AEM CAI here in LA without a bypass. But then again, if you pulled the fender liner, you are probably going to soak your filter just driving in puddles.
You can take the intake itself off, and check the inside of the TB and mani to see if its wet. If thats dry, and you're really paranoid, you can crank it a few times by hand, just to make sure there's not enough water in the cylinder to bind the engine up.

lol i wont really trust those...i know sumone who got fucked over with bypass valve.

ok, what i dont get is, if you have a CAI, and you put a by-pass valve on it, you lose 2-3hp. Which brings you down to the power level of a SRI. you just wasted $300 extra bucks. And plus, SRI sounds better :-D
Check your filter to see if it's wet. But I'm willing to bet, it's your coils or ignitor in the distributor that's going bad.

Why? So the bypass valve can deteriorate and get sucked into the engine? Basically he would solve the water problem but then have to worry about the bypass valve problem. I've heard that V2 bypass valves did not have as many incidents as the V1 bypass valves (which all had recalls).
AEM of Hawthorne, California has voluntarily recalling about 3000 AEM Air Bypass Valves sold to consumers by independent distributors and retailers. Under certain circumstances, the Air Bypass Valve (constructed of 2 plastic pieces sonically welded together with a silicon diaphragm and foam spring on the inside) may come apart and, in certain cases, the diaphragm and/or foam spring may be ingested into the throttle body, sometimes forcing the throttle to stick in an open position. This may present a driving hazard to consumers who have installed the AEM Air Bypass Valve.
AEM has received three reports of the Air Bypass Valve coming apart. One of these reports described possible damage to the user’s throttle body. Another of these reports described the diaphragm and/or foam spring being ingested into the throttle body, forcing the throttle to stick in an open position. The other of these reports described the valve coming apart with no resulting damage to the throttle body and no sticking of the throttle. No injuries have been reported.
The recalled Air Bypass Valves are identified by AEM part numbers 20-401, 20-402 or 20-403.

change your oil as mentioned above, and also pull your plugs and disconnect the harness going to your distributer. Then, crank the car over a few times, if there is water in the cylinders it will shoot out of the open spark plug holes.

Pull your plugs, and try cranking the motor. If water comes out the hole, then you sucked in water my friend.
Taking out the fender liner most likely just caused the filter to get soaked. I'd just check the inside of the cai, tb, and manifod like that other dude said before getting too carried away. As for those bypass valves, they really are useless unless you submerge the filter.
it is pouring rain here in the bay; during really rainy times i put a short ram on my CRX instead.
