B16B in EF8
The CTR transmission uses a hydraulically-actuated clutch and will require you to either A) convert to a hydraulic clutch system, or B) buy the Hasport clutch conversion kit.
The B16B ECU is OBD-2 while the EF8 CRX uses a pre-OBD system, so you will have to make a few choices on which ECU/wiring setup you will use.
These are just a few things to consider. Someone else here can probably help you more than I could.
Search to see if you can find more information about "Type-R" swaps in '88-91 Civics/CRXes. Since you have an EF8, you have the advantage of already having a B-series VTEC engine, so most of the swap information will not apply to you.

There are going to be a few possible problems with this swap. First is hood clearance. Although the SIR has a taller hood, it also places the motor up higher than a typical mount kit places a B-series motor in a non-SIR. And the B16B is about 8mm taller than the B16A. This means that the valve cover could touch the hood. If it does, you probably have no choice but to cut away the underhood support (as would need to be done on a non-SIR using the stock hood and a mount kit).
The hydraulic transmission presents another problem. Hasport makes a conversion kit. But this kit is geared toward USDM cars (or D-series equipped non-USDM cars). I don't believe a kit is available for the SIR. I could be wrong, though. The other option would be to fabricate (or have fabricated) a custom transmission bracket. But if none of this pans out, you can always just use your stock cable transmission. It will work fine. You just need to get a clutch disk for your transmission, as the spline is wrong on a CTR clutch disk.
The electrical system is something else that needs to be dealt with. You could reprogram your ECU. But you will still need that stupid twin oxygen sensor setup. This means that you will need to hack up that nice, $1300 Hytech header you get for the motor. Better would be to set your car up to run the CTR ECU. This is as simple as just getting an adaptor harness.. Or you could change ECU plugs yourself for next to nothing.

Thanks for all the great infos bros.Something is that had been bothering me all this while is,do i have to make a hydro conversion eventhough i used the original b16b,ecu and gearbox together?I'm planning to strip off my original b16a1,ecu and the gearbox as well, then the whole complete b16b,ecu and gearbox will be fitted into my rex(plug and play)...do i still need any modification, isn't it just plug and play in my case?I'm a newbie here and am planning this b16b swap soon. Please correct me if i'm wrong in any of this case. Thanks a lot.Cheers!
Hi there, I too am getting ready for a B16b swap but I'm into a EE8 mk2 vtec. I have a sir gearbox with LSD ready and overhauled to go in so I'm going to use that (it has been converted to use a cable driven speedo). It should just bolt straight on. Not sure how it's going to work with the clutch (I have an exedy organic new and waiting). Need to check it out when I get it.
I have been looking round the net and found a few pearls of wisdom regarding this swap but nothing like a documented swap anywhere. Maybe we can keep in touch and swap ideas/sites/etc? Then maybe we can do a complete swap "how to".
I know someone personally who has bought a sir with a b16b swap in it and it had 210 hp at the fly at a recent dyno day. I'm going to meet up with him and have a good look over his car soon so I'll report back anything I see. I don't know about the bonnet clearance issues because he has a carbon fibre bonnet on his but if I can take some meaningful measurements - I will. I know that he is running obd0 and has used the dizzy from the b16a on his which removes the obd2 issues from that side. Doesn't your EF8 have two O2 sensors anyway? Mine does so again no conflict there. I was adbvised to use the b16a intake due to obd conflict in the map sensor but I haven't seen what the ctr inlet looks like compared to teh b16a. I think that the b16b sir has an aftermarket intake of some sort so I'll have a look and see.
What timescale are you looking at for your swap? I should be picking the engine up in a couple of weeks and then it'll just be working on it at nights (we don't get a lot of light up here this time of year) and the weekends but I'm hoping to get it in by the start of december.

Wow...you'll be finishing your swap first as i'm still plug on with my jrsc in my ef8.I'm planning to remove off and changed into b16b.Anyway..we will keep in touch and hear from you then bro.Good luck in your swap.Cheers!

Okie..according to the shop owner over my place, they said that i only have to knock about an 1" near to the gearbox area as the ctr tranny is bigger.Other than that,no problem.Cheers!
I'm going to be using a crx sir tranny so hopefully it'll fit ok. I am hopefully going to get a copy of Hindat Tuning aug 2003 which ha a b16b swap into an si in it. If I get a copy or scan, I'll send it to you.
greatwhite: no problems there... Asuka had the same setup and a friend of mine has the b18 type R with rebuilt VT gearbox... easy fit!
just watch out with the intermediate axle (get the b16b one) and uhmmm hood clearance is not a BIG problem, but ask REX VT on here about that, he's the guy with the b18c in his ee8
about the OBD stuff: you decide... the b16b VT in the UK that I know has OBD0 parts on the engine and so does REX VT's b18c6... so both are obd0...
