Default Opinions Please: optimal gearing, Boosted crx ys1 LS/b16

I am debating on running a hydro or cable tranny on my setup.

setup will be roughly 300whp stock ls setup, tranny options are I have a hydro gsr tranny or use the jdm b16a ys1 92 tranny.

I am leaning towards the cable just because its easier and I wouldnt have to convert.

Does anyone have a quick geared tranny on a Ls turbo setup street car?

Judging by a chart I looked at the jdm b16 ys1 is the same as a 92-93 usd gsr tranny....and very close to the del sol vtec and civic si s21/y21 tranny, which appears to have quicker gears 1-4 than the gsr hydro and all having the same final drive. I had a usdm ls ys1 tranny before with 4.40 final and I had to shift into 5th at the top of the track.

Anyone boosted wrap out all 5 in the quarter.....I just do want to be limited mph wise with gearing holding me back

any input apreaciated....thanks.

Some may disagree but I dont see a significant difference with both of them being so close and same 4.4fd. You might want the higher gearing y21 but its really hard to tell. IMO it dosent matter much both may do the job...good luck

The last thing you want to do is shift into 5th. Unless you actually use the whole gear. So you may be stuck using the LS gears w/ that combination. I know before you were using small slicks w/ stock rev limiter and you wrapped out 4th w/ 230whp. So w/ 70 more whp, bigger slicks, and raised rev limit; you will probably end up using all of 4th again. As much as I liked my GSR tranny on my LS set up it really limited me mph wise when looking to make big power.

I run a B16 S1 on a Turbo GSR. I am on 26" slicks and have about 500 WHP. I run through all 5 gears and cross the line at around 7500-8000RPM's
