i have a 99 accord and am thinking about the h22a swap, one factor that i am including in this decision is the rebuild of the engine, i thought the other day why dont i save money and rebuild the f23a4 that i ALREADY have? can someone help me!!! is it smart to save $ and rebuild the f23a4 or the h22? which has the most potential and pros and cons?
It depends on your goals.
The H22 came in a sport coupe with perfomance in mind.
The F23 came in an economy people mover.
The F23 has a long stroke and thin rods making it good for low end torque and crap for high RPM. The H22 has decent torque and much more power starting where the F23 starts falling off and is far more rev happy.
On the other hand the F23 has iron sleeves. The H22 does not. Iron is good for forged internals and boost/nitrous.
Aftermarket support for the F series is pretty poor. The H series is better but it is still expensive. You can get F23 rods from Crower or Pauter for around $700 if you are looking to spin faster. Stock F23 pistons are crap for all motor compression and are also crap for boost as they are weak. If I am not mistaken you can use an 86mm low cc dome forged piston for the RSX in the F23 if you are looking to get higher compression (same diameter, same pin diameter, same compression height).
Exospeed might be able to get you a regrind for your SOHC, also look into Kteller.com as he has been trying to support the F series more than most.
I think that if you were to boost I would keep the F23. If you are trying to stay all motor then I would get the H22 (be prepared to blow a lot of money for more-than-stock-power).
Almost nobody in this forum is going to help you much here. No love for Accords or the F series. You might get more help at another site like http://www.accordinglydone.com
