Default Why K20 over H22a?

Why does everyone (with obd2) choose a K20 over a H22a type s motor? I know the K has a few more aftermarket goodies but why?

Bigger aftermarket. Sold my 92 Prelude SI because of it. Newer engine.

its the h22 tranny, its no where close to as good as the k20. the h22 has a little more torque but is also heavier. if you are asking for yourself and which one to get it depends on what u wanna do. The k series is obviously more expesnive and you can do an h22 swap for about half the price. People see more power gains from tuning and small mods to the k20 than the h22. and id bode to say that k series is more reliable in the long run.

I've wondered this myself. I would personally rather do H22 to save some money and get roughly the same amount of power. K20's are rarer, harder to swap, extremely expensive, and yeah, there are more aftermarket parts and the tranny is better, but for the price I really don't think it's worth it.

go with a different tranny and u dont have to cut **** to install either. id personally go with the h22 w/ itr tranny if i had to choose between them using my own money. i just think the k20 is a more reliable platform. i rarely hear ppl having problems with their swaps, and everyone is really happy. my one friend had the h22 in his prelude and it was quick but for what was done to it, it was kind of a dog. do more research on the numbers and what not, ill do some as well and see what i find

That's a good point, but it's still significantly cheaper to go H22, even if the thing blew up, you could probably put another one in and still be cheaper than a K20 swap lol.

I think its because the k series is more reactive to simple things like bolt ons. H22 does not react very well to bolt ons at all

Not considering it myself. Just curious
The good:
K20
More power with bolt-ons
More Reliable???
Better Tranny
Better gas mileage

H22
Alot Cheaper
No peremenant fab needed
Less invovled installation

They are both good engines it depends on what u want out of your car. Street car, race car, show car?

I like the K20 but at $4k for a the motor and tran vs $2k for a H22 complete changeover(prices are just an est.).

I have seen some sick H22 in civics but they leave them stock and if your going to go cheap the B20b or B18B with Vtec can get u the same results for the $2k but has a bigger aftermarket support

I loved my H22a del sol. K series are too expensive for what you get. Wirings not fun at all.
Both motors run on shifter cables as opposed to linkages, cables have a tendency to stretch. The H2B is an awesome setup and can still be had for less than a K series. IMO get a k series if your cars the only thing you want to spend money on.

just to clarify, are you saying that the extra weight is because of the transmission and not the motor? (because if you went with an ITR or GSR trany that problem would be fixed)

and again, is the fuel consumption because of the stock transmision that comes with the H22, or is it the engine itself?
