How Crucial is getting your alignment done?
k, right now i've got a set of 17's with 205/40/17 rubber on them sitting in my room, on the car right now [92 EG HB] there are 14" stealies with 45 or 50 series rubber, in a week i'm having my new H&R lowering springs and shocks installed, i was just wondering, is it really needed to get alignment done once u put the new rims on? or is it ok to just get them balanced and put them on?
I dont really want to do it yet because in like a month or 2 i'm going to put the steelies back on for winter, but i want the rims on NOW! so what should i do?

You don't have to align it after putting new wheels on, but you do after lowering it. Your tow will be out and you will wear your tires much faster if you don't.
An proper alignment is always a good thing to have. 17" rims require 17" tires, which happen to be quite expensive. Align it. Do it right the first time and be done with it. (Alignments are recommended every 6-12 mos)
I dropped my civic and the biggest part other than alignment is fixing the camber, the camber is tilted like this /------\ after the drop so it will were the insides of the tires very fast

And you cant get your camber corrected unless you buy a camber kit. </TD></TR></TABLE>
That is true and untrue at the same time. Camber CAN wear your tires. You can ask my right rear tire about that one. As for correcting the camber, there is the washer trick. Yes it is ghetto, but it works. And alignments are ALWAYS a good thing.

its not so important if you dont mind having to buy tires before you should really have to. camber DOES wear tires, toe wears tires faster, and a combination of the two ....well you might as well be taking a grinder to them tires.

yep...everything from wheel bearings to brake pad wear can be effected by a misalignment
