My manual says 91 octane? What do you use?
hey guys? Am I supposed to use only 91 octane if my CRX manual says so? The gas prices are sky high ... I wonder if I can use regular unleaded and clean the injectors once in a while ...
My 1991 Cdn manual says:
" Your car is designed to operate on unlead gas with 91 RON or higher. Using gas with an extremly high octane rating would be an unnecessary expense with no appreciable improv in performance.
CAUTION:
Using leaded or even low-lead gas could damage some of your emission controls."

First of all...Anti bush....hehehe....you have kerry and edwards stickers on your car?
Politics don't last, badass cars do.
Don't even worry about 91 octane....put whatever octane in it, just every 5 tanks of gas go and splurge on a full tank of Chevron or Shell or the really good stuff... Ok....have fun.

BTW ... not stickers on the car ... anybody but Bush ...
I just want to know if there are any side effects for the engine, etc if using the regular unleaded gasoline instead of recommended 91 octane (I've been spending fortune recently regardles my 40mpg mileage) ...

if you have a japanese engine aka ZC B16 B18 B20 H22 etc... you should use 91 octane because the higher octane the cleaner it burns, in japan they are bad on smog so they make their engines to run a high octane. if you are running a JDM B16 on 87 it wont run that great and it could possibly mess up your engine.

im aware of what they are suppose to run for zc and b16a, but he said in his manual it says 91 octane...im pretty sure he owns a usdm car, thats why i was curious...

how about a sohc zc..i ask because most have the dohc.
is there a notable difference when using a higher octane gas? I'm pretty cheap and only use 87 in my civic and my thunderbird. Is it worth it to spend the extra 2 dollars?

Wrong, octane doenst mean cleaner. Its used in motors with higher compression and more advanced ignition timing. Octane by definition if the ability to resist ping, knock, or detonation. If you have ANY stock D series motor, 87 is fine. a6, b2, b7, sohc/dohc zc. 89 wont hurt if your **** about your car but anything higher is a waste and can actually hurt performance. Higher octane fuel burns slower. Hope this helps clear up some common myths about octane.

Good point, 90 RON is about 86.6 octane, 92 RON is about 88.5 octane.....so take your pick.

ok guys i work at a gas station.....soo...87 and 91.....the only difference is fuel milage.....91 burns hotter so it uses less fuel.....it will run cleaner too......but either way where i am in ridgetown ontario regular is 85.9 per litre.......premium is 95.9 per litre.......Go with the regular! trust me no difference!

According to my USDM owner's manual, the D16A6 can safely run on 87 octane, derived from the (RON+MON)/2 rating method (known as PON, which is what we use to rate octane in the US). As someone else pointed out, check to see if your manual's recommendation is for 91 RON.

Umm, no.
Amazing. You work at a gas station yet you have no idea what you're talking about.
You may want to go read up on the subject some time.

factory recommends any octane over 87 or +
the higher the cr you got it is recommended that you ran higher octane so you dont ran lean in the combustion chamber... i ran 89.5 octane w/ 10% ethanol but personally if i had any engine that has vtec or high cr i would only use premium but since i dont still running my slow d15b2 the cheapest would do...
oh btw i use fuel injector every 3rd or 4th fill up so once every month

All i know is. That california, more specifically is getting bent over for gas. It's a good thing i can move the decimal place over and that's how much i need to pay for a full tank i just round the hf off to 10 gallons. hehehe.....
anything over 87 is badass. But just remember 91 is good every-once-and-a-while.
