Default Just ran compression test. 180-170-180-180 good?

installed zex kit 2 weeks ago running on 55 shot with colder plugs. Just ran a compression test and it yielded up 180-170-180-180. Is this still good? I always thought normal compression is above 200psi. Thanks for any input.

The good thing is that they are all close to each other. What motor do you have?

sorry forgot to list motor.

Motor is a D16y8 from my 99 civic ex. Those numbers were done with 5 cranks each. I was wondering was i suppose to use the extention they gave me? (told me to use it for reach plugs over 14mm but mines was 12mm, although counting the top, it's 14)

5 cranks doesn't sound like alot, I normally do 7-10, just to ensure the gauge stops going up. . .

5 cranks is how you do a proper comp. check.

sorry to jack the thread...but those are almost the same results I got from my b16a3...

I got 175, 180, 178, 175

Does this mean my engine is unhealthy? I mean since my C/R is 10.2:1 shouldn't it be higher?

it varies but in most cases you crank until the needle on the gauge no longer rises... for some motors its 4 others its 8.

yea those numbers sound low to me... 180psi is like 9:1 compression ratio. however the numbers are similar to each other so there are no distinctive problems with the motor.

Don't worry too much about peak numbers. My B16A2 read:

230 psi on a Snap On gauge
210 psi on a Sears gauge
190 psi on a Matco gauge
