Default Rebuild or new motor

I have a 1992 Honda Accord Ex it has almost 260,000 miles on it. It has the f22a6 which has 140hp stock. The only mods I have done is to add a Greddy SP1 cat- back. I was wondering if I should swap to a H22a or just rebuild the motor I have. Its an automatic and for the time being I am going to have to stay with an automatic. I've found a H22a with auto tranny for $1800 with free shipping off ebay. For right now either motor would have to remain almost stock depending on how much I have after the motor work. If I go with the F22 rebuild will I be able to make power later on without boosting it because I read that it is never a good idea to boost an automatic? In the long run I'm wanting to make it into a low 14 to mid 13 second all motor car. Will the F22 be able to that or should I just go with the H22 since it has more power to start out with? I do hope to eventually swap to a manual transmission and know that will increase power to the wheels, but for right now will probably be stuck with an automatic. Thank you for any help and I hope I have made this post somewhat clear to read.

i would be weary of buying the h22 off ebay. i opted to build my f22b up for boost, but it WILL cost you money. don't go cheap when buying horsepower....it won't work, and you'll be sorry. you need to figure out how much horsepower you are wanting to make. if you want to be in the 13's it will be a good bit. i, personally, would save my money and build the f for some boost. with the f22a you can build yourself a junkyard turbo setup and run the DSM manifold. its actually not a bad manifold for what you pay for it. if you bust it buy another one. that is my personal opinion though. a turbo will still cost a good bit of money (mainly in the bottom end), but the h22 would cost more in the end to get to the times you want (i would think). do some research....save up some more money, and do everything at once. definitely get the manual. make sure this is something you want.....

good luck man need anything else just ask....

I don't understand why anyone would build up an automatic, they're just not made for the power, they're boring to drive, expensive to rebuild, and you gotta worry about the pan leaking.

And yeah ebay for a motor you've never seen and don't know the compression or history? Not to mention you're paying for a tranny you really don't want.

That's my oppinion, I'm sure others will disagree but $1800 is a lot of money to dump into a car that's 12 years old. Again IMO I'd go for a boosted F22B1 (stick of course) vs. an H22. For the money you can get a lot more horsepower out of a boosted F22B1 and the lower ends are pretty cheap if you have any problems. IMO anyone that boost an H22 is wasting their money and just gonna blow the motor if not done right (aka hella expensive).

Sell what you got (figure what 2gs?), save some more money, then buy like a 96 or so EX (5spd) with the F22B1 and boost it. Not to mention miss out on the whole engine swap hassle ($1000 or so?) for the same amount of hp if not more.

Another option is convert what you got to a stick, turbo it, and when it blows buy an F22B1. Just depends on how attached you are to your current ride and the state of your motor.

yeah, no comment.

if you turbo, TUNE THAT MOTOR LIKE you would .... protect your child. tuning is the key to having a long lasting engine. if you spend as much time on tuning as you do on building the motor, then you should have any problems blowing anything (granted you dont try to run too much boost).

If you boost, you will dump a nice big chunk o change into level 10 to keep your auto-tranny alive.
