Default hp gain from CAI

How much hp are you supposed to gain from a CAI; im trying to decide whether to get the AEM CAI or the Injen CAI and there is a Injen one at
http://www.ptuning.com/html/It...c=RSX
and i was wondering if that 17 hp gain is big for a CAI or if that is regular? Thanks.

You won't see a 17hp gain from a CAI. It doesn't really matter which intake you get, they all do the same. The only difference between the Injen and AEM is that Injen supplies you with a new washer bottle for the RSX, and AEM makes you relocate the washer bottle to the other side of the car.

The most gain you'll probably see is 5-8whp.

i agree with b18gsr you'll probably see a 5-8 hp increase, you won't see a 17hp gain, but I would go with aem.

They'll all do the same. I went w/ a DC b/c it was the first to come out w/ a replacement resevoir.

Prolly the same reason car companies dont advertise the hp at the wheels. They wouldnt sell as much if they said the new 165whp Type S!!!

^^ I hear what you're saying... but don't these companies have dynosheets as proof ?

I mean... claims on a short ram might seem overly enthusiastic... but a CAI should show gains on the dyno similar to real time... I always thought K series engines were getting awesome gains from bolt ons....

sometimes the claims they make are numbers from test cars with headers, exhaust, and possibly even larger IM and TB. A car with exhaust mods will generally gain more HP from a CAI. so don't expect much till you clear up the breathing on both ends.

You wont gain 17hp from just an inake, someone buy one and dyno it.

well ive made a different post about water logging and they were talking about a bypass valve saving their engines from it and they said it was for AEM CAI but is there one for injen?

And if they dont have one for injen will the AEM air bypass valve work for their new model the V2?

For the EP3/DC5, the V2 isn't a true CAI, it's just a short ram. The filter still sits inside of the engine bay. So you won't need a bypass valve.

What's the difference between the injen and aem?

i recently bought a used injen CAI, i may be going to a dyno day holding close to my house. if so, i can post numbers, for whoever can wait. this should be happening either next week or the week after, i hope.

the washer bottle, only does apply to the dc5 right? just double checking.

if you want a LOUD and very annoying throaty sound go with the AEM, I personally have never paid attention to see if the Injen is as loud but i know my AEM is about to come off and go in the trash and be replaced by an Icebox, then with an IC pipe after that.

The AEM is nice, but its way too loud for my taste (even with my T1R/Spoon N1 exhaust combo)

if u have a rsx dont listen to those fools as u notice they all have b series. The weak gain is the b series. Now the K series does put out these gains in the last Couple thousand rpms.I have an injen and they are the best in my opinion. They are two diffrent worlds b and k.They are on the wrong forum.Aem has heat soak problems. The only thing is that the Begining the short rams do better. Not so good throttle response.

I definately own an RSX, and have had many B-series engines.

Also, explain exactly how the AEM has "heat soak" over the injen or dc? (since they both follow the same path and are constructed of the same materials)

EDIT: oops "8600RPM" on the ol ladys name

If you are in TX, don't fret. I've had the DC Sports CAI on the RSX for 2 years, and driven through lots of rain. As long as you aren't trying to drive through HUGE puddles that are more than a few inches deep, you'll be fine. Just use your head.

I've got a CAI on my EG that is lowered 2 inches, and that car has been fine as well.

yea that's BS. would AEM CAI have heatsoak issues? It's the same tube. as the injen cai. sits in the same place.

only difference between the two kits is that the injen includes a new washer bottle vs the aem gives u hardware to relocate your washer bottle (PITA!)
