idling problem
I have 3 months old 01 prelude and sometimes it idles rough. When I touch the gas to higher the rpms it goes up and then it drops down to about 650rpm and idles rough. It comes and goes and it doesnt seem to be very bad but I would think a brand new car for over 30k should idle smoothly at least for the first year. What do u guys think? Has anyone else had similar problems? I dont think I run it too hard, once in a while I rev it up to 8k but i'm sure everyone does that.
Another question. I've been driving stick only for a few months and i'm wondering what rpm should i be at while crusin on a straight road. I try to keep it low, around 3k, is that bad for the car? Is it bad to be driving in 4th going 60km/h?
thanx for yr info

I have a 4th gen, I know it's a diff engine, but I've always had the same prob with both of my engines h23 and h22, it doesn't effect my performance at all, it just idles funny every now and then, it's never bothered me enough to worry about it. As for cruising, cruising at 3k is fine, cruising at 4k is fine anywhere around there is fine; me personally, in heavier traffic, I will cruise at slightly higher rpm's (4-4.5)so my higher end power is right there in case I need to get out of a jam or around some dumbass that just pulled out in front of me and refuses to accelerate, cause I'm a lazy driver, and it's nice to just barely move my pinky toe, and fly around someone without having to change gears.

i got one more driving practice question. what do u guys do when the car is moving very slowly but u cant put it in first. Do u just rev it in 2nd? This sometimes happens to me where i'm moving very slowly but cant put it into 1st and so i have to move in 2nd. Isnt that bad for the clutch? Sometimes I get it into 1st even when i'm moving, i got used to doing this and after a while it started to grind a little so i stopped doing it and now it's fine. What's your opinion on this? Why cant u put it in first while moving?

By idling rough do you mean it shakes the car? Quite a few 5th Gens seem to have that problem a for a few months when they're new. It idles at just the right speed to shake all the way up into the steering wheel. It goes away after a few months.
You can try upping the idle some. There's an idle adjustment screw above the throttle body. It looks like a big slot screw that's inset into the throttle body.
