Default how to set and change cam timing on 1.5 cx

Ok, i bought a 94 1.5cx hatch a month or so ago and the owners put a new timing belt in, well apparently the timing is off. Its making alot of intake noise and barely any exhaust. The ign is wayyy too advanced and even when turned the dist, its still wayy advanced. Top speed on the car is bout 80mph haha. Im not too stupid when it comes to cars, where are the timing marks and how do i set the cam timimg... and how do i loosen the tension so i can change it? Help

from the sounds of it, you don't have a lot of knowledge about working on cars so I wouldn't touch it without a good manual and someone with experience by your side, or I would seriously take it to a shop to have it done. Mistakes made in that area can cost LOTS of money if not done right.

do a search on timing belts, there have been a couple of great write-ups on this. There are 2 marks on the rear timing cover that have to match up with 2 marks on the cam gear, there is a hole in the lower timing cover that you can use to loosen up the idler pulley/belt tensioner, once that is loose you can slide the belt off the cam gear. Make sure the bottom is at top dead center, and that the dizzy is pointing at cyl. number 1. But still check on those write-ups. They are good to read if you are new with timing belts
