Daily Driver with 1-layer
as long as your not runnin crazy cams and have good piston to valve clearance its fine. all the 1 layer is gonna do is bump up your c/r. is it a stock ls? if you want to ease your mind clay it.
sorry to ***** the tread but how about on a b18a1 with a milled .10 head and crower 404 cams and ctr or P30 pistons.i havent bought the pistons so i can choose. also its going to be daily driven. or maybe a 2 layer?thanx and again sorry.
it depends on the cam profile. ls motors are lower comp. anyways so a bump in there c/r isn't gonna hurt (ctr's or p30's) they should have lots of play to work with. but claying the motor is your best way to find out. i personally run sk2 st2's with a 2 layer h/g on my b16 with no clearance issue's.
b16 pistons are great. they offer good compression, and they actually sit .020" beow the deck, so you don't have to worry about valve clearance. ****, i'd run a 1 layer gasket AND b16 pistons. the combustion chamber on LS is big, so you have to bump that compression up big to see some good gains.
as far as 1 layer headgasket being reliable? hell yes. just make sure you use the bottom layer of the oem gasket, and use copper gasket spray, and torque the head like 3-5 ft/lbs more. i've done it so many time on so many different motors. it'll be fine.
