Default gsr in a crx wired obd0??

Friend got a crx with a gsr that runs like crap at idle. It has a 97 gsr motor wired down to obd0 with a b16 ecu in a crx. It has the original gsr intake manifold and im wondering if thats the problem since the obd0 b16 ecu doesnt have the capabilities to control the butterflies, am i correct?? Thanks honda-tech members

Proper operation of the butterflies is not necessary for smooth operation of the motor. But there could be a coupleof other problems at work here. The BIG oneis the idle control system. On the 1G JDM B16A, more of the idle system is vacuum controlled whereas it is completely electronically controlled on the GSR. The fact that the 1G JDM B16A ECU is not completely up to this could be part of the problem. Another potential problem is the distributer. If he is trying to use the GSR distributer with the 1G B16A ECU, the car most definitely won't run right. It is for reasons like this that I am not in favor of using pre-1992 ECUs to run 1992+ motors.

is the ECU throwing any codes?

I really does not matter the OBD generation of the engine as long as you have all the proper OBD specific items to match what OBD ECU you use.

I am running the same thing and mine and I have no problems. I am running the obd o b16 dist. and running a hf wiring harness on it but I am using the pr4 LS ecu to run it and using msd to controll the vtec.

And your car probably runs shitty compared to an obd1 gsr crx.

I ran my crx OBD 0 with a B18C1 for a year with no problems, was also running a Zdyne to control it though.

thanks for the replies guys. car is still drivable as far as engine wise but the tranny's synchros are gone. grinds in all gears and is hard as hell to get into gear. engine mounts and shift linkage are no name, so you think this will have a negative result on trannies.
