H22A Intake Manifold studs / Hondata gasket / Problem
This is really getting on my nerves. The IM first broke off a couple of the IM studs/nuts a while ago. I assumed it was b/c of age, stiff clutch + track day, and polyurethane mounts + front crossmember. Studs/nuts replaced, went with the Hondata IMG, support bracket was OK, and off I was.
Everything was OK for about 4 months / 3000miles of NORMAL driving. The vacuum leak came back, I quickly retightened the nuts and was off. Problem got worse and worse until the passenger's top nut completely fell off. Now the cycle begins again. (1000-1700rpm idle fluctuation, bad rattling at ~2500rpm w/ cold engine, etc..)
What can be done to minimize or prevent this? Would longer studs help reduce the stress, or maybe insert some sort of rubber washers between the nut and IM flange? I'm all out of ideas as to why this is happening :\
TIA

im having a similar problem. stripped two studs already.luckily they were on the top and could be changed without removing anything. im gonna remove the whole thing im, replace all the studs and reinstall with new nuts and some of that medium loctite mentioned above.
where to get strong studs and nuts?
King Motorsports used to sell an extended IM stud kit that I used on mine. They don't have it listed on their website, but I'll bet if you called or emailed you could get a hold of them. They used to have black EM studs with gold nuts that I was going to get down the road too, but those aren't listed anymore either.

im sure this problem can be fixed with some loctite to keep the nuts on. i got air getting into my coolant because i cant get it tight enough which could be fixed with rtv. but i dont want rtv all over my head and pretty blue bisi gasket
i contacted bisi about this today. maybe they will stock extended studs to prevent this problem for future bisi im gasket buyers
would exhaust studs work? a found some extended exhaust stud kits.
to the op and myself

blox intake manifold extended studs came in tonight. comes with 9 studs, 9 nuts, 9 nylon washers.
never used nylon washers before. im pretty sure the stock setup uses regular lock nuts. what do you guys think? ill probably try the nylon washers. gonna be replacing all the studs tomorrow. will also be using a small amount of rtv around the coolant ports. i really hate pull the im off.
